SRX Championship
What is this madness????
https://racer.com/2021/01/04/srx-unv...2021-schedule/ It apparently is something like a race of champions type series featuring identical cars on short ovals. The story doesn't have a picture of the actual car yet, so not sure what is happening, but they have a schedule! SRX 2021 SCHEDULE June 12, 8 PM, ET – Stafford Motor Speedway (Stafford Springs, Conn.) June 19, 8 PM, ET – Knoxville Raceway (Knoxville, Iowa) June 26, 8 PM, ET – Eldora Speedway (New Weston, Ohio) July 3, 8 PM, ET – Lucas Oil Raceway (Brownsburg, Ind.) July 10, 8 PM, ET – Slinger Speedway (Slinger, Wis.) July 17, 8 PM, ET – Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway (Nashville, Tenn.) |

At least 9 full-time, plus two wildcards.

Looking at the lineup it kind of just looks like an old man championship.

Well yes, it is a fun series for established drivers to play on an even field with similar setup cars and be entertaining. It's not a feeder or development series, it is purely about having fun on a race track with fairly tough cars and putting on an entertaining event. It's not about lap times, being the fastest series on dirt, becoming a world champ or anything else.

Probably contract issues are a reason for not seeing these drivers. |

Contract, time, desire, timing, there are a multitude of reasons why drivers would not be able to make a race during their season. I don't think contracts regarding being a Chevy/Ford/Toyota guy would be much here as they aren't using a styled car but rather Ray's designs. But there may be rules about only X number of other appearances and guys have those booked already. Think Larson's old deal restricted his midget playtime to a certain number of events each year only as a common example, people would see him at all kinds of midget events but only ran Chili Bowl and one other as that used his seat time and for a while he couldn't even run there.

Don't forget everyone, Race 1 this weekend June 12 from beautiful Stafford CT. Ok, no idea where that is in Connecticut but it's a paved slight banking super mod track.

Stafford is 30 miles northeast of Hartford CT, and 20 miles southeast of Springfield MA.
Fun fact: Stafford Motor Speedway is owned and operated by Jack Arute's family. |

Uh oh, SRX was the second most watched race of the weekend. Ok, yes, it was the only one on broadcast rather than cable but was Saturday night, not exactly hot TV times.
The Camping World SRX Series averaged a 0.72 rating and 1.2 million viewers for its second weekly outing at Knoxville Saturday night on CBS. That was down a tick from the previous week’s inaugural race (0.8/1.3m). Nascar- Cup 2.6m NBCSN, Xfinity 1.1m NBCSN Indy 807k NBCSN F1 1.06m on ESPN |

Tony Stewart got bored, and decided to start last to give a show.

I did not watch last night, but have seen the other 'shows.'
Is Ray Evernham an elf? Did someone think combining autosport with pro wrestling type plot lines was a good idea? Paul Tracy's function seems to be to crash a few people each race, bring out yellow flag and allow reset of plot lines. Marco Andretti won last night at some place called 'Slinger.' Also, I had read somewhere that he is pivoting to some type of nascar. Is this weird series some attempt to keep Marco in motorsport, or does it hhave another purpose? |

Odd interpretation. Not sure on the elf reference, Ray looks/acts pretty normal? Their aren't any plot lines, see following answer Paul Tracy is 100% terrible. He is taking this opportunity to ratchet his "persona" up to 1000%. Everyone else is driving normally or well, if Paul were replaced by someone, the entire show would benefit. He is creating a stir though, which is good in some arena's. Slinger Speedway is outside of Milwaukee (major market). It holds one of the top 3-4 Super Late Model races in the country and is highly regarded by many in NASCAR as a quality facility. The winner of this years Slinger Nationals (big race), received an entry into the SRX race (winner was Luke Fenhaus, 17 year old up/coming Super Late Model driver, 2nd in Points in ARCAM Midwest Tour, similar to Ty Majeski or Derek Kraus). I believe this model (linking big amateur race wins with one-off pro-series races) is definitely something to look at. The race itself was very good between Stewart, Marco and Fenhaus. The late caution by Tracy ruined the race, and Marco jumped the final restart without any punishment. Overall there is a lot to grow on for next year, and this weekend's race in Nashville should be pretty good. |

I just watched the Main Event at Slinger. What a cool little track!! Shame the local kid got shafted by a late caution and cheeky restart by Marco.
