The 2010 Danica vs. Simona Thread
Yannick asked for it in the "Silly Season" Thread with this quote:
"The big question will be: Is the "Danica vs Mike" thread on this board going to be replaced by a "Danica vs Simona" thread for 2010?" To which DanicaFan replied: "Nothing against Simona but I think she will be just another backmarker, no real threat to run up front. Danica will destroy her in the races." GAME ON!!! Don't hold yourself back, NAC... Last year, there were even friendly wagers on this... Same rules as "Danica vs. Mike?" which I believe were: Mike had to finish higher than Danica in a race where both drivers finished the race. Just one race... Can Simona do that this year? Weigh in on what you think the parameters should be... Ought to be a lot of fun!!! Sure was a hoot last year... Last edited by Tim Northcutt; 11 Mar 2010 at 20:53. |

If HVM hits the mark on the setups I think Simona de Silvestri has a pretty good shot at scoring some solid results. Going by the available resources she's definitely the underdog though.

Not thinking there will be too much suspense this year....
Simona beats Danica in the second race of the year at St. Pete. And at least three times thereafter. Conway V Moraes will be entertaining, too. |

Just a comparison before the season opener this weekend.
Simona has produced more results in a shorter amount of time than Danica has in her entire career. 5 wins before she has even competed in an Indycar has got to count for something. Danica Pre Indycar Career: 2004 Toyota Atlantic Series - Wins 0 2003 Toyota Atlantic Series - Wins 0 2002 Barber-Dodge Series - Wins 0 2001 Formula Ford Championship - Wins 0 2000 Formula Ford Championship - Wins 0 1999 Formula Vauxhall Championship - Wins 0 1998 Formula Vauxhall Championship - Wins 0 Simona Pre Indycar Career: 2005 Formula Renault - Wins 0 2006 Formula BMW - Wins 0 2007 Champ Car Atlantic - Wins 0 2008 Toyota Atlantic Series - Wins 1 2009 Toyoata Atlantic Series - Wins 4 |

Somehow just KNEW that one of these threads was on the cards as soon as I saw the Simona thread.
This is going to be fun - looking forward to it. Simona certainly appears to have something - will be good to see how the two of them compare across Simona's rookie season. |

I've already said: the problem for Simona is that she runs with a small team that in recent years hasn't shown significant results...but she has a good curriculum...I am confident that she will do well, but she'll need some time to get acclimatized...and she has no experience with ovals...like for all the rookies, I expect her for the second group of road races (that is from Watkins Glen)...

Of course. And the question was rhetorical anyway.

This is a legit question as it comes to oval tracks, and Simona is at a major disadvantage.
She's a rookie as far as that type of circuit, and HVM doesn't have a vast amount of experience either. As one of the Champcar teams, they don't have a thick book on the Dallara and have never had an experienced IRL driver to set them up. One car teams get far less testing miles, and the input from all of the AA drivers has to help Danica too. So on ovals, expect Patrick to be well ahead of Simona. The road course challenges will be the equalizer for the differences of equipment. |
