Paul Edwards back racing
http://www.speedtv.com/auto/?lvl=3a&cat=23&id=3232
Great news - Paul Edwards is being given a run out by Audi North America at Laguna in the Speedvision Challenge at Laguna Seca on the 20th. Not so good news for the Californian construction industry though - wonder how they will face the loss of one of their top up and coming chippies!! Pauls a great guy and a major talent, racing alongside Derek Bell can only be a good thing for him. |

Have followed Paul's career for many years, if there is an American driver who can mix it with the rest of the world, it is him.
Best of Luck Paul. |

Found out a little more - its the Champion Audi Team who also run the Audi R8 in ALMS. Looks like a good setup then.

More news - Pauls going to drive a Penske F1 car at Indy next weekend. He tested at Sears Point earlier in the week, and loved the car describing it as a very soft F3000.

Wow, I'm suprised you guys actually have followed his career. I guess he ran out out money to compete further in Europe? I guess his previous connections to Palmer Audi got him his recent Champion Audi ride.

Paul was third fastest on his first acquaintance with the car in practice - this from Speedvision site:
"Paul Edwards, of Santa Maria, Calif., completed the top three for the combined sessions. Edwards, driving the No. 3 Champion Audi S4 Competition this weekend, impressed with the third fastest time in the morning session, but was unable to improve on his fast time in the afternoon session. This event marks the first time Edwards has raced in North America in the past six years, after racing open-wheel cars in Europe. “It’s been a great experience for my first race in the U.S,” said Edwards. “The team is first-class. The crew and drivers have really helped me get comfortable. I really have to thank Audi North America for this opportunity.” " Last edited by ghinzani; 21 Sep 2002 at 20:24. |

He ended up qualifying 6th, some minor problems with his diff were costing him coming out of the corners and he had to throw it across the dirt to get out of the last corner. However hes very happy with the team, says they are a great bunch of guys - and he's loving working with Michael Galati and Derek Bell, who he describes as a great comdey double act with enough racing stories to fill a season. Best news of all is that he is stoked to be back behind the wheel and racing hard again!
Go get 'em, "Fast Eddie" !! |

Well he was running 3rd by lap 12 when he was punted out. He rejoined to finish 18th, a lap down - for which he won $375, which is probably better than he gets paid on the building site for a days work ! Better luck next time, and lets hope Audi and Champion support him so that there is a next time.

Pauls had his first run out in the Dallara Nissan World Series at Curitiba. He was 8th fastest in the first practice, just ahead of his team mate Bas Leinders : http://www.telefonicaworldseries.com...h/news/n77.htm
and then 9th in the second session, just behind Bas: http://www.telefonicaworldseries.com...h/news/n78.htm A promising start.. |

Good performance in 2nd race at Curitiba (7th). Better than Jaime Melo Jr., both in their first race in the series.
