GTS v GT1
A number of people have been advocating a GT only LM/ALMS with a return of the holy grail that is the GT1 cars.
Personally I have no time for this idea as the recent past shows GT only racing soon morphs into prototype racing, at the expense of the genuine GT cars. The ACO will also never ban prototypes. However I do believe GTS cars such as the Zonda, Masarati and even the new 575M and S7R could seriously challenge for top six overall placings with a few minor tweaks. GTS cars are almosy exactly the same as the old GT1 cars except that they weigh 200KG more and have a slightly smaller restrictor. The downfall of GT1 was the fact only one car was required for homologation. However with the GTS minimum production of 25 cars (soon to go upto 100 if the ACO have there way, with small manufactuers still required to build 25 cars) the boom and bust nature of GT1 should be avoided. Reduce the GTS minimum weight to 900KG and give them a 5% bigger restrictor than the LMP1 cars and you have GT1 without the downsides of GT1 homologation. As these cars will not have a serious chance at an outright win any manufactuer wanting to win will build an LMP1, therefore eliminating the 'prototype GT' problems of GT1. These cars could either replace GTS or create another class such as GTS+. |

JAG, don't overlook my guys! The Vettes were consistantly top six cars last year. What makes a top six car is not it's class, or even it's make, it's all in the engineering. You would think that the Mugen Panoz 07 would have at least been better than the Porsches, but did they once finish better than Alex Job? You can say that's just because of reliability, and I would say your right.

Vipers out of date now. If a car is overweight then you jusgt give it bigger restrivtors. Afterall the Nissan R390 ran at 1000KG in 1999 out of choice in order to have bigger restrictors.
You could either replace GTS with GTS+ or keep GTS and introduce a GTS+ group as well. |
