Datsun 240z race car - how much?

hi there,a freind of mine has a '72 240z which has been in storage since '76 and is finally admitting defeat and realising he may never get it done,it is mint as you would expect with no rust at all,a like new blue and black suede interior no good for racing i know but worth a mention more interesting is the spike anderson built race motor he has to go with it 280bhp apparently,he also has every seal ,bush new from nissan as he planned to have a street bullet,so whats it worth now and whats it worth as a racer?any help would be appreciated.

This is the CURRENT sports section. Try Historics, or maybe Street Car fora, as they will have a better idea...

Also, I assume this is in the USA? Most of the folks here are European, if not just UK based.

Just a word to the wise!

I would suggest that you contact Spike Anderson via his web-site.

There is an ex rally version for sale in Holland, privately built, the vendor will not accept less than £65k.A road version, such as mentioned, would not be worth more than around £10k, bare in mind that if it has stood for any length of time, that Spike engine will need stripping to check the rings havn't stuck to the bores etc etc.

am I missing something but if its mint what does your friend need to do to it apart from recommissioning it? I am curious as to why someone keeps a mint car in storage for 35 years.
I think 240z's are one of teh overlooked 70's gems, if they had a European badge instead of Japanese I am sure they would be worth several times what Terry suggests as to value.

How true. I always had a soft spot for 240s, before they got fat and slow... Like me.

Certainly one of the best straight six's ever built, and with a nice suspension set up,far superior handling to many other european/british cars.

It is what the MGB should have evolved to in the '70's. Isn't there a 240 running in '70's Roadsports with HSCC? I am sure there wa last year.

Hello Terence , 65 is a lot of money for a z , the car you mention can go for a lot les , but if somebody is really interesting he should contact me and discuse the specs he want , race or rally its both possible , the car is newly build 5 years ago but has hardly driven and standing in a corner for more then 4 years !!! , and if you want to build a car with specs cost you probably more then 2 times the money .
Regards Adrian
