Gen3 Regulations - Welcome to V8SuperPrius
Story Here
The negativity towards turbos ultimately killed them, how is a Prius-power-pack going to be taken onboard? And yes, I get you can but a full hybrid/KERS package off the shelf from places like Magneti Marelli, but does that mean it belongs in Supercat? |

Well, turbos haven't actually been "killed" yet have they - they're still eligible to run and they're part of the Gen 3 discussion according to the linked article.
To my mind they really do need to at least look at Hybrid - not of the Prius variety but more like the McLaren etc variety that is appearing on more high-performance cars. It could provide a boost in power that might allow for a less-expensive, less-powerful and lower-maintenance version of the current V8s that together with hybrid provide similar power to what we see now and similar noises but MAY achieve lower costs for teams and more appeal for a wider range of manufacturers. Of course, once they look at it, they may feel that it really is neither appropriate nor cost-effective but in today's world, it makes sense to at least investigate the idea fully. |

Right now, I'm of the mindset that we either stick to the current formula, or clean the slate and start from scratch with something else.

Think i would prefer either a DRS or push to pass introduced to spice the racing up a bit.

Smallish electric motor used for a push to pass feature with x amount of uses per race would be cool.

Hybrids for supercars just as long as there is not a fan vote to boost individual cars.
Flybrid might be a start - tack a system onto the albins transaxle. https://youtu.be/CtGB173abNA Flybrid - dyson racing |

Problem with overtaking at the moment, F1 inspired, is it's effectively legislated against by the requirement to get wholly alongside before the corner, with blocking moves basically allowed by the one move rule. DRS and push to pass is then introduced so that you can breeze by on the straight in the dullest overtaking moves ever. Allow the late dive up the inside, put the onus on both drivers to leave just enough space for the guy alongside and you've spiced up the racing in the most exciting way possible without artificial means. Just like it was 30 years ago. |

Hybrid technology should really bring the costs down...
And if turbos were deemed non-viable by the best operators in the game, what does that say about the potential future application of hybrid tech - not every team is Red Bull |

If they maintained the V8 engine with an additional electric motor with limited uses over the course of the race it could add some interesting strategy to the event imo. |

So we spend a whole lot of time and money trying to create even racing and "parity" so we can invent a button to facilitate passing?
This is the grown up equivalent of participation awards. |

Anywho back on topic, would be interesting to see the Supercars to keep the 5L V8 engine, strap on a twin turbo system and implement an F1 style ERS system derived from the kinetic and thermal heat of the brakes and turbo system. Could be used as a push-to-pass system or have zones where the car can use the electrical power for extra boost.

Brad Keselowski has suggested that NASCAR should go down the Hybrid route - maybe the combination of V8 engine and hybrid unit could end up working in both Oz & the USA in the future?

Hybrids are already dinosaurs so why bother? Either make it a IC category for nostalgia reasons or full electric for simplicity and reduced costs. All a hybrid does is load more complexity and cost onto already expensive to race cars. Genius's at work?

Check out this dinosaur setting a new lap record at the Nordschleife. Wonder what time it could lap Bathurst.
