GPL
Hey guys, if theres anyone I trust for GPL help, its the guys from Virtual Racers here at 10ths! Just thought I'd start a genereal GPL thread, people seem to be getting back into it these days, and i myself have managed to get into GPL. I also want to ask some questions, these being, firstly, is there any decent Sportscar mods, preferably late 60's/early 70's, out there? And also, would the xbox 360 wireless wheel be any good with GPL? I'm looking into getting that wee dongle thingy which is around a tenner I think, and dont have enough money to actually buy a new wheel, just want something that feels vaguely like properly playing GPL rather than the keyboard

Well, I found the link, but didn't really look at it much
Now I look further, seems it was never completed. Looks like another Duke Nukem Forever Still, lots of sportscar stuff on rFactor, right? |

The only completed mods I've known about are the 1965 and 1969. I don't think GPL was designed to be moddable in the same way that Rfactor was from the ground up. I remember someone creating a launcher to select which mod you wanted to use before launching the sim.
Funnily enough I've been thinking of reinstalling GPL as I stumbled across my install disc when sorting throught my stuff the other day. As for the Microsoft wheel, it should work, but as far as I'm aware you wouldn't get any force feedback. |

Yep, thats GEM+, which I use for the (rather excellent) Thundercars mod.
And i'm not too bothered about FB for the moment, anything is better than the keyboard.. |

For the first few months after getting GPL I was using a joystick! It was really weird when I moved over to a wheel. |

I believe its just the 360 wheel that doesn't have force feedback. Any other MS wheel works fine. I know that there's been a lot of campaigning for MS to sort out drivers, but they don't seem to want to sort it.

As far as I'm concerned, they're extracting the urine over this now. If they've given up on the mod, then at least tell us. Not keep us waiting for years and years while the developers are the only ones who get to drive these mouthwatering cars. I still drive GPL occasionally - and I still maintain without hesitation it is by far the best sim you can drive - by a million miles, but I haven't raced 'seriously' for 4-5 years and they were talking about this mod back then..... |

If it's unfinished and they're not working on it, there may well be someone else who is able to take the project over.

Hi,
GPL 66 is available and very gd it is too -http://1966gpl.speedgeezers.net/index.php?p=downloads There is also a very nice Lancia Stratos mod that is the closest to a Sportscar mod so far get it here - http://www.virtualr.net/lancia-strat...-gpl-released/ make sure you read the install info. You will need GEM to manage/load both mods. Chrs, Pat |

I finally got round to reinstalling GPL on my machine the other day. My CD is my original one from 10 years ago so no all-in-one patches included!
Anyhoo, I started googling to try and find the GPLEA cars again when I stumbled across something which has turned out to be a god send! I stumbled across a group call the Grand Prix Legends Preservation Society who have created a brilliant installer. You just put your original CD in the drive, run the installer and it installs GPL from your disc and then applies all the patches/updated cars for you. Genius! Knowing me though, everyone on here has probably known about it for years... |

I actually downloaded the GPL 2004 demo, which has all the (back then) latest patches for graphics and sounds and things like that, I just added onto that.

OK, so it saddened me that the first GPL thread here is now 5 pages down and the last post was 17 months or so ago.....
I've been running GPL again and boy am I rusty! I'm struggling to get within a couple of seconds of the times I did 7-8 years ago but I did upload one improved time to GPL Rank today! So am I the only lost soul here who STILL thinks that GPL is, was and probably always will be the best racing sim? |

I pop it on every now and then! Great fun. Still don't have a proper wheel, but I use my iPod to steer the car (very handy app for the PC), which is much better than using a keyboard.

I'm still using my beloved Momo Force - and it's still as good as it always was - now about 8-9 years old!
PS I can't believe that one of these sold on Ebay last week for £4.99!!!! In full working order! Makes me feel rather sad and old! I'd have bought it as a spare for that. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Logitech-M...item3cbf19e777 |

Clearly 6-7 years without driving GPL more than once or twice a year has taken it's toll. I've driven about 170 laps of Lime Rock over the last few days trying to get negative in the Lotus. Looks so easy in the replays. I'm about 0.07 short now......

And I did it tonight!
Really enjoying driving GPL again. Still as good as it ever was. And for me, it beats the crap out of rFactor, GTR etc. I now need to go green at two ChallengeRank tracks and 3 HistoricRank tracks (although I'm negative overall on both of those ranks) and then I spend a month at the Nurburging......... |
