Fiorano.
Just wondering if any of you have a circuit diagram of the short version of the Fiorano circuit (1.413 km). I've been looking everywhere but all I can find are maps of the full course (2.976 km).
Can anyone help? Thanks Chris. |

dude, I've been searching but found nothing. I personally didn't know there was a short course in Fiorano.

I haven't heard of a short(er) version either. As the length you give is about half of the track's usual length, the only feasible option is a connection road between the corner in turn 7 leading back to the main straight (and the pit garage).

I think there is a short course - times are sometimes noted on F1 live and other sites when describing test sessions. I dont know the layout but I definately remember it being stated.

The thing about the times is a good point, Mal. I have never seen any Fiorano laptimes published other than around 1 minute, and that's a normal time for 3 km of track with an F1. So what made you think there is a shorter version anwyay, LucaBadoer? Is there? The search is on ...

Thanks for the article, LucaBadoer and thanks for that map as well, Jordi. "The best time of the day was 1:09:030" With 3 laps on the short version of half the length one might assume that those laptimes in the range of 30+ seconds would be the fastest lap times. Curious stuff. Jordi's map doesn't show any short version, only the mid-nineties modified first corner. The track being a figure-8 one would think half of the 8 where the pits is would be the short version. Is there a sliproad at the junction perhaps? Any Fiorano visitors at 10-10's?

I also found aerial photos, but they were older than the map I posted. BTW, there was no such short tracks in those old pics.

I thought the same as Dino; a possible link that halves the track somehow. But looking at the photo, nothing is visible!
Also, long time ago I thought that the short version were actually the circular tracks (used for evaluating tyre deflection) but it's not the case. Those circles (counted together) cannot measure 1.4 km..... Last edited by Red; 18 Jul 2002 at 17:23. |

That was one of the pics I saw.
BTW, I hoped I had a track besides my home! |

 Don't have any idea of how old or new it is, it's from the Ferrari official site. But respects the map's layout....

And usually they have to stop testing before something like 8pm in order to not disturb them!!!

I e-mailed the people at http://www.racingcircuits.net and:
"There is a link road (circled) connecting the start/finish straight with the turns 8&9 straight. This is my best guess as to where the shortcut link is located as no other access roads appear wide enough or have sufficent run-off areas for racetrack use. The attached photograph has been enlarged, hence its poor quality, however the link road discussed above can be identified on this image." Chris. |

So, if that is the shortcut, after the start-finish line they have a supertight right-left chicane to then rejoin on turn 9... makes sense. I wonder why it isn't bigger and better done, though
