And now for something else...
Ok, I was a little tired of the usual pre-season rumour mill and got to wondering about you guys out there again... I'm sure we all must have played a few racing games here or there and the thought that occured to me is that in many games some fantastic circuits have appeared that don't exist.
And what better time to start looking for inspiration than when rumour is about that ten-tenths members are starting a secret fund for someone to break a certain Mr Tilke's legs? So come on people, search through games and look for tracks or screenshots of some fantasy track that people might be able to play through themselves as a suggestion for a whole track for Mr Tilke to learn from. Maybe even just an awesome corner or sequence from a part of a track? One memorable fantasy sections for me is RRR: Ridge Racer Revolution, PSX. The simple track or track 1. The paved section just at the end of the starting straight, heading uphill into tunnel then crest which got you air(Have to be made into more gradual downturn for F1 damnit) but the sequence is capped off by sharp downhill braking into a flat 90 degree right hander from memory. I loved that section. Would make good viewing for a camera placed down at the bottom seeing them peel over the crest, down the hill, one disappears behind the leader and then he moves out for an overtaking moving and they move off the left side of camera. I'll have to find some screenshots and hire out some playstation games to find some more because I know there's plenty. |

Sounds like the first section of the first track on the original Ridge Racer. Through the tunnel, sharp right to sharp left onto the bridge and then a long descent into another sharp right hander. Great stuff. Is Grand Valley Speedway on Gran Turismo based on a real track? If not someone should make it. Perfect for F1 cars.

I think this could get a better response in the armchair enthusiast section of ten-tenths

That Tokyo street track on GT3 is even better IMO. There is also a GPL version of the Grand Valley Speedway IIRC. Last edited by ASCII Man; 2 Feb 2003 at 16:29. |

I never liked grand valley myself though I admit for F1 cars it would be a good circuit and make decent watching.
I was a fan of Trial mountain but I realise it'd be less suitable for F1. |

Are we talking specifically consoles here? If so, count me out. But if we're talking sims and not games, try Beal Balley in GPL. Brilliant.

On one of the Gran Turismo tracks there's this bit where you come through a left bend and then there's a left-right chicane, which you can just about take flat if you go on the grass a bit, but then you've got to brake real hard to take a hard left into a tunnel...I like that part the best.
Although having said that, there's a chicane-type thing on one of the tracks which you have to take in a Viper as part of your test - now that's a brilliant section of track - over a crest and downhill steeply into a chicane... |

I've always been a fan of the mountain course of Sega Rally 1. A very tight circuit, but with lots of fast, flowing curves and a couple of decent overtaking spots along the way.

The four bonus tracks for colin mc rae 1 on pc are.....different.Trout heights was my favourite, but it was seriously difficult with all those hairpins on the way up the mountain. And that jump was awesome!!!!!!!!!
