California 8H 2017

With only a matter of weeks left to the California 8H at Mazda Laguna Seca Raceway, I thought it'd be good to start a discussion on the race.

I'm curious as to how this event will feel, most modern Racing we see at Laguna Seca is based roughly around the sprint format, so it'll be interesting to see how the race goes, and how the multi class race format works on the circuit. I envision is being most like a round of the B12hr, as classes are the same with even a few Marc cars to boot.

Below is my accumulated entry list from various announcements, the latest being a pair of Acuras. This is only the confirmed cars, looks like we can expect K Pax, Magnus and a bunch of other PWC teams to announce efforts soon. I hope we may also see the odd IMSA GTD team too, but with the Cota 24hrs too I figure that is less likely.

Where is the link, but yeah I've been wondering about estimates for the Laguna 8 hours myself. Looks like the GT3 grid will be dominated by PWC teams. Would be cool if a couple SRO teams commit too. I imagine it will be televised by GTWorld. Would be awesome if John Watson comes in to commentate.

Another great lineup, from the announced so far my money is on a fight between Magnus and Land

Although I'm assuming we will see a full pro Porsche too, after the Bernhard success at Spa

I hope so, the GT World account is the most accessable. Bathurst was IGTC but streamed by NISMO.TV only. They do a great job but the videos are often randomly geoblocked or have embedded permissions adjusted.

Via YouTube? Most live streams remain up on YT after they're done, and I can't find it now.

YouTube is great because every device ever works with it, and it keeps it for the future. Hope the IGTC goes down the route of using the GT World account.

Wish there was a real entry list available from the race organizers, but decided to pull the trigger and attend based on what we know so far. If nothing else, want to show some support for the idea of an enduro at Laguna Seca. We'll see...

From the Wright announcement article they speak about 22 cars on the entry list. In the list below there are 24 listed. Had expected some more IMSA GTD and PWC GT3. But IMSA GTD teams have Petit LeMans and most PWC teams don't have endurance material i think. Also there was some rumours about Flying Lizard entries. They have the K-Pax entry, but also they have GT3/GT4 Porsche.

The Wright entry, competing in the GT3 Pro class, is one of at least 22 cars on the provisional entry list for the Intercontinental GT Challenge round at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

They say 'at least', so maybe 22 is the number of entries known to S365 at this point?
I'm also wondering if the ANSA and Racer's Edge entries may not be on the provisional entry list, given that they haven't announced any lineups and quite some time has passed since their initial announcements.

Actually the GMG GT4 entry is there, so I missed that one! There was also a rumor that Audi might enter an R8 LMS GT4, but so far no sign of that!

Its an ok entry list. It could be worse. Biggest bummer for me is no Mercedes AMG.

Then go to CoTA. For AMG Mercedes, 5 in GT3 and 2 in GT4 entered for the 24hr race next month. There are 17 GT3 cars plus those MARC Mazdas are entered too. Last count, 57 entries. I don't know how many will actually show up as there are lots of blanks in the driver lineups but they still have over a month to fill some of them out. I know a few guys that run in that series and they love it. Plus the cost is pretty cheap. A seat in a TCR car is less than a seat in one for IMSA or PWC.

For the 8hr race at Laguna, are there really 5 classes?
