This is cool. How far would Wilson be ahead of everyone at the end of lap 1 if he started on the race front row?

Only the safety or medical car comes close.
Finally, Minardi get some severely needed attention. Imagine the hits on their website right now!? |

The only pity is that it isn't the FINAL qualifying...so let's just enjoy it while it last...

Technically speaking there are no rows in qualifying, but it is pretty funny
Would love to see a repeat tomorrow |

Jos is really the Boss today, if Minardi were to qualify for the race on the front row they'd walk it in with Stoddart's brilliant tactics he keeps telling us about.

Wow, not only is it a shock to see Minardi 1,2, but check out that top 10, Firman in 3rd and Pizzonia in 6th?!! Ferrari, Williams, and McLaren must have made the race gods angry today.
Well, unless it rains like a Brazilian monsoon on Saturday(I'm sure Pizzonia will pray tonight!) these incredible results will probably not hold up, but what if they did?! How cool would that be!? Good for the Minardi boys, and good for the sport! |

I thought this was a joke at first! I know they had a much drier track than everyone else, but at least they took the opportunity and certainly deserve it!
As has been said, it's too bad this isn't Saturday... |

Oh come on.. this is not sport. This is just circus. The grid at Magny Cours, but in 1999 (pretty similar circumstances). THAT was fun, exciting etc.
Making rules to specifically involve luck and give it a major role does not do any good to sport. That is he who runs faster. |

Red - I want you to go outside and build a bridge.
And then get over it It is what it is. Even the old rules threw up a few odd results. I remember Frentzen in a prost stealing a second row slot at spa once. |

You make a good point Red... even if we do like the results.

Typical. A rare bit of excitment and surprise, with a fairytale outcome, and all some people can do is moan. If tomorrow's dry it won't have any major effect ont eh outcome, just enjoy it and hope Minardi can make use of the extra exposure.
Paradoxically this could make tomorrow less exciting, as all the contenders for pole will be doing their laps first. A drying track throughout tomorrow would be great though. Did Button make a mistake on his lap? Steve, I was ahead of you - I knew precisely which person would fail to see the funny side. Last edited by BootsOntheSide; 4 Jul 2003 at 13:37. |

Yes, but then was fun. They could chose when to take the track or when to stay in the pits. They could be smart or idiots, their choice. Now they just cant. You go when you're told to do it, and that's it.
SteveR, actually I do see the funny side, actually I did have a good laugh for this qualifying session. But the problem is serious: when fun is more important then competition.. well... I know that F1 indeed has a problem. F1 was supposed to be about... fun? Comeon, stick Mr Bean in a Formula 1 movie, make Stallone to write the script , produce it at Hollywood and have million laughs. |
