Kovalainen's future
Heikki Kovalainen is now Renault's test driver, so does this mean he will no longer be in GP2 in 2006?

I imagine so. It would be confusing, although possible, do both over an F1 weekend.

Couldn't see him doing both.
It's not really like Rob Austin doing F3 and ginettas last year is it?! |

Renault wont have a Friday driver, so what else would he have to do on a race weekend that he wasnt doing last year?

He could do both if F1 test can be skipped from time to time, like Webber did back in the F3000 days

But then again, he does not have a whole lot to proof in GP2
Everybody knows he can deliver! |

... if you assume that the job is 100% inside the car, certainly.

GP2 races are at the same tracks as F1 anyway, so he would be at the track in any case. It doesn't really seem practical for him to do both, but he would not be needed on race weekends unless Alonso or Fisichella were unable to race.

Can't see the team wanting there only spare driver to be out and about in a GP2 car when they might need him in some scope at that time e.g. promo work etc.

And he really has little to gain from another season of GP2.

Unless he wants to win the GP2 title. I think he'd rather concentrate on his test duties. That way he should be certain to get a race drive by 2007.

Yeah, but it would be almost impossible to work out the timetable. If you are racing then there are always debriefs to be had after ever session, and there's a lot to talk through in GP2, and you'd be adding that to the massive demands on your time as a third driver in F1. Friday would be impossible - two F1 sessions with debriefs when you're supposed to be qualifying for GP2.

But as I said before that everyone seems to be missing, there is no Renault Friday driver. Heikki's going to be spending the entire GP weekend in street clothes.
