Cup is back: Martinsville.
Finally back to some topline racing action after last weeks Nationwide only event at Nashville.
And it's on the paperclip shaped Martinsville. Brakes are required then. On the roster is Cup and Trucks. Cup qualifying is about to start, Denny Hamlin was fastest in practice. If the practice times are similarly replicated in qualifying, Franchitti, Carpentier, Andretti and Raines will miss the cut. |

lol, Franchitti couldn't have squeezed in any tighter there.
He matched Kyle Petty's time as the slowest of the four that could make the race but he is ahead in points, so displaces Petty for the race. Phew! |

I saw a lot of the cars being prepped for this race last week. Very interesting. Jr is using the car he raced at Bristol.

Off-topic but still Martinsville. Youn Chrissy Wallace, daughter of mike Wallace finished 18th in the Truck race after starting in 35 position. The girl looks like she has talent. She did late model racing at Hickory and won a number of races there. Martinsville was her first race in one of the top series. Her Dad was her spotter in the Truck race and Tony Stewart was also on the radio with her giving some advice and encouragement. Tony shoots his mouth off at lot but he also does some good things.

I think it has been a pretty good race so far. The Hendricks cars are doing well. Too bad though that Jeff gordon got caught up in the wreck caused by others.

Horrible result, but some good racing. Typical Martinsville barge fest!

I enjoyed the race and will rate it 7.5 on a scale of 1 to 10. Oh, for another 2 laps. Regan Smith had a good race finishing 14th and is now in the top 35. |

I so wish we ran more short-tracks in Nextel. Some more short-tracks, and a dirt race or two, a couple more road courses (a street track could be interesting...), and things could be fun.
I thought there were some really nice non-contact overtaking moves in the race, which is always good to see when passing is so difficult. I also think Jeff Gordon should be given much credit for avoiding a big crunch. Good reacting and thinking. It would've been nice if Truex could've run a bit stronger, but that is just a personal preference thing (I am inching ever closer to actively "supporting" a NASCAR entity). |

Carpentier stated that the drivers were having a lot of fun at Martinsville and there was a lot of bumping and banging. He said that Montoya kept hitting him and then waving his hand as he passed Carpentier.

That was great, the last few laps were a bit of anti-climax, but still a good race, too bad almost everyone I wanted to do well had problems (well, just about everyone had problems....)
Kenny Schrader was running well but then got a flat tyre (I think...) and got lapped, finally got back onto the lead lap and something blew up, Reutimann was doing well, just got back onto lead lap, and something blew up.. Almirola running real well, something blew up... Elliott not...running...that...well, something blew up. Edwards ran out of fuel on turn 4, still top 10 though. McDowell ran a good race other than not letting Burton by. |
