Track Time in NSW
What is the opinion of the assembled experts here regarding the effect of the OP closure this year and NSW losing 33% of available days for track hire or racing in NSW? Will the richer classes force the lesser affluent to be marginilised as to their ability to obtain track days? Does anyone have any idea how fully the three tracks are utilised at the moment?

Why does everyone think that Oran Park will close after the V8s? It's the final time the V8Supercars are going, but the track will continue to operate AFTER the V8s have come and gone. Oran Park were more than happy to have the "Grand Finale" in 2009, but V8s need room for Townsville, so they brought the final round at OP a year forward. The last time I spoke to the guys at OP about it, they said that the red tape surrounding the development is what is holding it up, which gives OP a bit more time to operate. They expect to be around til at least mid-2009 if not the end of 2009. Had the V8s committed to two years and have the finale in '09 then the track wouls have guaranteed to stay around til then.
As for track availability, I believe Eastern Creek has 3 days between now and end of the year that are available...... |

I am not referring to the V8's and to tell the truth what they do is their problem and good riddance. I asked the question in a general sense for ALL competitors, I have been told that our class is competing in the final race this year and I can see problems ahead and the two remaing circuits going with the flow and jacking up the price of hire as anyone in a restricted supply situation would do.

Casper - it was told to me by the Manager of OP, so I have no reason to doubt it. You make your own enquiries if you wish. This situation is not new, it's been on the horizon for many years now, just as it was for Amaroo.

So, what is the situation for the NSWRRC? I attended a round last weekend at Oran Park and was pleasantly surprised by the standard and number of entries of the categories. Will it still be around in 2009? Also, are there any chances of Mount Panorama hosting an event?

Apparently there is alot of delays and bureaucracy going on behind the scenes that might see OP continue for longer yet.
The track commentator at the NSWRRC meet the other weekend said that it will be open in 2009 and 2010, but will probably not be CAMS licenced in 2010. |
