Marshalling in Germany
Hi I'm new to both this forum, and to marshalling. This is my first season marshalling, and I would like to continue, however, I'm in the Forces and have just been told I will be posted to Germany soon. I would like to marshall in Germany, but longterm (ie the next 3 years at least!) rather than as a one -off, does anyone have any advice on how I should go about this?
Thanks. |

The ADAC (Germanys equivalent of the RAC) has a marshals club, who I know run the 24 hour race at Nurburgring (I've marshalled it 4 times) Try their website, failing that send me a pm and I can give you the email address of a postchief at Brands Hatch (Don Basins) who has contacts with the ADAC marshals club.
Come and join us at the Nurburgring 24 hours next year. |

I marshal at Le Mans with marshals from the Lausitzring circuit, and know they are always looking for new marshals there.
I suspect it will be similar to over here, in that you contact the circuit local to wherever you are based and they will be able to give you all the neccessary details. Enjoy your time there. |

Or, try Sue Whitlock the BMMCs membership chief, she and her hubby did the 'ring for a long time and have contacts.

Depending were you are going to be stationed in Germany, that is going to be far away from any track. As most forces are placed near Bielefeld and Hannover, that would mean that Oschersleben could be the best option for you, but they are not very keen on foreigners. Still would mean at least a 2 hour drive.

Thanks for all advice - I've emailed ADAC so will see what comes of that and will look to get in touch with those mentioned. Ta very much!

One thing I've always wondered about with marshalling abroad is the language barrier. I know enough to get by in a few languages, but with marshalling you hear words that you're not likely to know in other languages, although I'm guessing Lisa you might be quite fluent if you've lived in Germany that long....

You could also contact them: http://www.rkracing.de/centers/Sport...rlinsuchen.pdf
There you see the schedule of the events where they search marshalls: http://www.rkracing.de/centers/Termine2008.pdf |

If the info I got is correct, the 24 hour should be from 11 to 14 June 2009.
Lisaw, if you don't mind the travelling why not marshal at Spa once and a while. Can always help out with that. |

Yeah, Spa is not far away (for me it´s the same distance as the nearest grand prix track in Germany, the Nurburgring) but you have to speak french there.
