Radio Le Mans on a Mac

Morning all...

since I am a bear of little brain and can not remember / did not save how to do this, would someone be so kind as to lead me by the nose - step-by-step - through the route necessary, so I can listen live?

At the moment my Safari launches a separate little window when I click the 'Listen Live' button but I can't hear diddly...

thanks so much, oh technically-savvy ones...

Martin,

When Safari launches the separate little window, wait 60 seconds or so and the Radio Le Mans logo should appear with a control bar underneath. Push the play button on the control bar.

That's how I do it anyway. (Mac OS 10.3.9 & Safari 1.3.2)

I seem to remember a few weeks ago on MWM Tim claimed to have added some info to the website about getting the audio stream to work on various platforms, but I never did find it.

Cheers

You can also download Flip4Mac, a Windows Media Player plug-in to open the stream with Quicktime and inside your web browser. Either way, you have to use the link posted here and not the one on the RLM main page...

And then there's that Belgian "Race Live Streaming" that requires Silverlight. Will I ever find out what it is? Damn Microsoft products!

I am running Mac OS 10.4.1 and Safari 4 public beta... I get the tiny window opening but no matter how long I leave it, not a peep and no control bar...

I can't find Tim's Mac instructions either and since he and Hindy prefer Windows PCs, they can't help either...

Don't tell me I need to go back to older versions of Safari to make it work? The BBC players work for radio on Safari 4...

It's because the site is using Windows Media Player based streaming, which is of course not supported very well on a Mac. You have to get the right plug-in and be patient for the stars to align properly... and it will work!

Flip4Mac is from Microsoft and works in the browser (Safari - Firefox) when you hit the right link (the one on the RLM site's page very rarely works with this setup). Pasting the right link into VLC's Play Network option kinda works too. You should have VLC on your Mac anyway, it's way more efficient than QuickTime. The right link I'm talking about was on the first page of the Spa race thread. Best of luck!

ooops, just saw you added a post: Flip4Mac might work better in Firefox; make sure it's up to date though. Quicktime is voluntarily allergic to WMP, no hope there. Try VLC, it might work for you.

Martin, try using the link in your last post as a bookmarked page in Firefox, that should work fine. Don't bother trying it in Safari 4 Beta, it will hang.

Copying the same link into VLC player should also work fine.

The url http://raceradio.octopusmt.com/ worked for me last week for the Spa broadcast. Although I think I was on my newer Mac (OS 10.5 with Safari 3). Just pasted it into Safari and hit return. Quicktime launched and I hit the play button. (I do have Flip4Mac installed also)

Sorry mate, I'm not real tech savvy, so I don't know how it worked, I just know it did!

In the past, the url http://globecast.workscast.com/ has worked for me, and I also had luck last year on the RLM alternate site here http://rlm08.0157.org/# but not sure if these really work anymore.

The raceradio link gives you a recorded loop saying they have changed servers and to click on the link at www.radiolemans.com
I have tried it on a G4 with Tiger and no luck, a friend has a new Intel running 10.5 and still no luck.
We have Flip4mac installed but no luck. The recorded message says the link will work on Macs but we can't get it to at all.
Any alternatives obviously we're desperate.

I got the recorded message on the old feed, are you using the new one mentioned above?

http://tx.sharp-stream.com/tune.php?...showltd&.waxr=

The the new feed diverts to:

http://venus.radica.com/radioshowltd

mms://venus.radica.com/radioshowltd?MSWMExt=.asf

http://mercury.radica.com/radioshowltd

mms://mercury.radica.com/radioshowltd?MSWMExt=.asf

http://tx.sharp-stream.com/tune.php?c=radioshowltd

Maybe try one of them in VLC or Flip4Mac.

Maybe try Firefox, but if you have the new feed link in VLC or Flip4Mac, you don't need to go to the RLM site and click the listen live button.

'Bout time RLM put a proper help page on their site.

Real shame that they changed the feeds this week. Should have tried to keep the same ones as the last race before LM.

This is my take on what is new at RLM. I believe that the switch to the new server is to facilitate a broader range of player/devices for listening to RLM.
Have you shut off your computer (full cycle) and re-tried the listen live button at RLM? I think it will then prompt you (or not) to ok the connection you wish to use and redirect you to the stream encoded for that particular player/device. If not I am sure we all here can (hopefully) find a stream that you can plug in and listen to. Luck!!

I can't get it to play well going through the RLM website directly using Firefox 3 and Flip4Mac but I can get it to play using the stream link directly in the URL box.

As far as I can tell, Octopus Race Radio no longer runs the current stream, so last year's solutions are no longer effective it seems.

Not a MAC problem, per se. Is anyone else havig problems connecting to the live RLM server/feed? I can play the archive just fine this morning but no live connection! MWM coming up in a while.

Probably best to avoid beta software as sometimes it can do nasty things to your computer, which you agreed was ok when you clicked the button to accept T&C's
