I dont get that impression at all . Ron Dennis would hardly announce a program like he has , if its just a pipe dream .
Since he retired from the F1 team , his personal interest is wanting to take McLaren back to Le Mans & tackle the big boys ..... at least thats what he said in an article last year . Its called the MP4 12C . http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/dri...cle6822585.ece Its the red thing !!! |

^true it was named after that car, because it copies some technology of the F1 car:

Sounds like a very good way to stuff it into the landscape for someone who isn't a trained racing driver

With a 6.0l twinturbo V8 i'm not sure that car is really suited for GT2, the £60,000 911 rival mentioned might be a better fit.

Well whenever it starts racing it would be good to have McLaren back in sportscar racing, I just wish they would make a new F1 whilst keeping the look of the original and updating all of the mechnicals then the F1 GTR could go back to Le Mans again.

EVO reports it as a 3.8 TT V8. So unless something's changed in the rule structure that fits nicely below the 4.0 for FI engines. Has that rule been changed?

Short video of Jay Leno at the factor to see the car. Don't get too excited, there is no driving in the clip.

Ask the same question, and you get the same solution?
There have been many examples of 'parallel evolution' over the years! The McLaren looks good, and seems to be priced sensibly. Could sell well. |

It is a generic sportscar shape for that configuration, IMHO.
I like it though, love the short overhang (which is a little F1). The interest is in the details, I look forward to the production version and more on the engine. |

It looks like Roary the race car to me or is it more lightning McQueen from Disney?

"Roary" - that nickname's gonna stick.
BTW Why no centre seat? And why all the electric crap on it? Twin-turbo electric dual-adjust variable 7-speed seamless underwear. WTF! McLaren sold out on its principles? What's with Frank's gimmicky body styling, where the McLaren Formula1 Team logo is implied in the side air intakes? Obvious enough ya think? Pretty disappointing from McLaren, (though the back is handsome although far from original,) overall the car specs read like something VW, or Audi would do. Result: This car is going to be perfect for going on "The Bull Run" TV show - made for America. |

As far as i can see the new Mclaren is great!, with 600bhp and 1300kg, there isn't much which can do the same, with the same legacy (counting out, Pagani, Radical, and so on). The new Mercedes SLS "only" have just under 600bhp, but weighs 1600kg. |

Primarily, lightweight, driver oriented car.
McLaren stood firm on not having any electronic assistance on the F1, because that would interfere with the connection between driver and car. This meant absolutely no turbos, no ABS, traction control, no stability control, and cushioning the ride for the sake of comfort or fake stiffening to make a track day warrior - the driver must be able to feel what the car is doing. All weight was to be moved as close to the centreline of the car as possible, and as low as possible. The SLR was made for Mercedes, and was designed primarily for fat German and American businessmen, and as the project progressed, so did the list of electronic accessories Mercedes demanded their clients have on the SLR. This ruined the balance and performance of the car. Subsequetly, Mercedes have been thrilled to lay the blame squarely at McLarens feet - for giving them what they asked for. This P11 MP4-12C (isnt that a gun?) is meant to be McLaren's return to doing their own thing. It's really not that impressive. |

@Splatz, no, Mclaren's goal is to beat anything in it's class, and that means it should beat the Audi R8, Ferrari F430, Lambo Gallardo, that kind of cars, you can't beat those these days without electronic stuff. No car these days comes without.

Also, the new F458 Italia is supposed to have 570 bhp and weights 1380 kgs, Mclaren reaches 600 bhp and 1300 kgs... this will be one fast ******* of a car.
