Brands Hatch - round 1
About time we moved on from pre-season rumours and had a thread for the first meeting.
FP1 just finished. Red flagged 10 mins early after Sheddon had a puncture and went off at Paddock. Jordan fastest, just ahead of Plato and Shedden. Boardman an impressive 4th. Wrathall went out on track but didn't set a time. Hughes's Toyota 5 off the pace. RAR have been working on Pinkney's Audi all morning but didn't make it out. |

Jordan fastest is good news! I think he can challenge for the title this year! Pirtek must have the car sorted though and Jeff Smith was eighth!
Shame Wrathall didn't get out in that session, good to see the Golf on the pace as well though! |

Sigh, for whatever reason Canal+ Sport here in Sweden has decided to drop BTCC this year. Figures I have to find this out on opening weekend too, such a disappointment.

That's a big blow. He's a great driver. Hope they can get him out for Donington.

AUTOSPORT reports they'll try to fix it, but Shedden isn't confident they can.

Ouch! Damn that's too bad, he's missing out on a lot of potential points. I hope they are able to fix it but it looks really bad.
By the way, what time is qualifying? |

Both Shedden and Steve Neal say the weekend is over. Unless Matt Neal's car needs work they might as well try do repair it.
If it was rear end damage then I'm sure we'd see a tank-tape special tomorrow, front end tends to be harder to fix. Agree with you though, if it out tomorrow then don't expect much more than an extended test session. |

Seriously? If the car doesn't run in qualifying but races tomorrow I suspect it will be in the top 10 by the end of lap 1!

I know it is still a lot of work and sounds quite bad, but at least it wasn't a car from a privateer's team because then it's not just a round at stake, but much of the season what with limited funding and man power.

Looks an awful mess, the chassis leg's badly damaged. I wonder if they'll have to find a nearby bodyshop and do an all-nighter! As Redshoes says, it's not like a rear ender where they can pull it out by some crazy means and tank tape it up. I remember seeing cars with ratchet straps tied to the crumpled rear and the other to a towtruck or a metal post. |

from the pictures that looks quite terminal damage has gone right back to the bulk head on the near side dont they have a spare shell / chassis being a works team ?

Not at trackside as thats not allowed in BTCC rules. Nothing stopping TD building up a new Civic (apart from time/money) after this weekend though.

wasnt away of that shame as thats a big chunk out of the budget when the car hasnt even completed a race lap . i would beb very suprised to see that car on the grid although anythings possible in racing lots of resources around the track to use

BTCC 2011 Season Discussion Thread
I guess the "rumours thread is no longer appropriate now that the first qualifying of the season is almost underway.
Andrew Jordan is "on it" in practice, and the other surprise is Tom Boardman's impressive pace. I see the Avensis's are not on the pace yet. Finally, TOC has got the Golf ahead of quite a few runners, so maybe points are possible from the go. Qualy starts in 10 mins... Moved topic to this rnd 1 topic. Looking forward to it. Great that they are planning on broadcasting the qualifying for all races this season. Shame it won't be on mainstream TV but to have it online alone is a big plus.
What always amazes me about Brands Indy is the closeness of the times - drivers are often less than a tenth of a second apart in lap-times! |
