Ooooooooooooo
Super Sunday!
BMP to Combine Top Championships for three Bumper Weekends BMP is to unite the cream of national racing in three "super weekends" in 2002. The British Touring Car, Formula 3 and GT Championships will share the same bill in events at Brands Hatch, Silverstone and Donington Park. "It's a great opportunity for fans to see the three premier championships together," says TOCA Tour Director Richard West. "Exciting racing is guaranteed, and these events enable us to expose the best of British talent to a larger audience." The "super weekends" have been introduced after close consultation with the Formula Three Association (FoTA), GT Association, and BTCC Teams. "Brands, Silverstone and Donington are the three BMP shareholders who own two shares in each of the championships," explains BMP Chairman Robert Fearnall. "They will each host one stand-alone round, and one combined round. I'm delighted that everybody has agreed to unite for these races. I think they will provide great entertainment, and there will be a real sense of occasion around these meetings." The bumper weekends will take place at the start, middle and end of the season. Each event will be scheduled over three days in order to allow teams sufficient running time. Outside of these combined meetings, the F3 and GT championships will continue to headline their own bill. I got this from the BTCC web site, I'll definitely be goin to those meetings! |

That sounds like a good idea, as long as they don't charge to much for it.

I have only just been introduced to the delights of BTCC but have been following F3 and GT as part of the Powertour since the start of the season and I agree that combining the 3 championships should make for a great weekend of racing. Shame there is only going to be 3. Agree with AndyF that they will need to keep the ticket prices reasonable.

What they should look at is introducing a 'family' ticket. It would bring in more spectators and I'm sure wouldn't lose out revenue wise?

Excellent idea Stephen.
Also interesting to note Silverstone, Donington and Brands are the circuits involved. I don't think anybody should get thinking about this 'Super Weekend' being permanent-the other circuits couldn't cope. |

Being three day meetings there are very few other options but to use three circuits. Easter, Whitsun and August Bank Holiday have to be the favourites.
