Marshal Registration 2012
I've received a registration form from MSA today. I had previously heard that MSA were working on a total re-registration to clarify who is currently marshalling, which is clearly a good idea. However, I would have thought that the process would have included some form of check that the criteria for maintaining a grade was met (ie n days attendance in grade and appropriate training) as no club endorsement is required if not upgrading.

I understand that, at any rate for the first time, it will be for you to confirm.

There is already a database with everyones grade(s) on. I suspect that this will be used to check the validity of the information written on the form and ensure that we all have, in the future, just one registration covering all grades in all disciplines.
If that had been clearly stated we would avoid lots of mismatches to investigate as the less honest marshals (if there are any!) attempt to upgrade through the back door (which I am sure will fail) I am, as ever, the optimist. |

I have a question from this ill have to email MSA/Grading Officer, i sent my PRC off a few weeks ago with all the things to upgrade from trainee to green therefore on the form section 2 asks registration grade should i be ticking track marshal or still trainee ? or hold off sending it off until i get a response from MSA

I would imagine holding off sending the new form until your new grade card comes would work out best but I think you answered your own question in the start of your post .... get in touch with the MSA/club handling your upgrade and check. Dave |

I'll be holding off retuning the form too.
Currently awaiting change from Post Chief to Examining Post Chief, and grading officers are no wiser about when it will all be completed. |

the form asks for your current msa number therefore you will only get the grade that you hold against your presant reg.
If you are in the process of upgrading or are entitle to upgrade then you file in section 3 and get club endorsement from your clubs grading officer. |

Is it me??? Accompanying instructions say to write name & d.o.b. on reverse of photo, form says name and reg number to be written on the reverse of photo, either way then you then glue it to the form whereupon you cant read it anyway!!!

could always just staple...it's in case the photo falls off the page, if your dealing with hundreds of forms one or two are going to fall off. |

what i dont get is why they need a photo stuck/ attached on, as if they neeed it for the licence surely it needs to be detachable from the form??? unless they plan to scan or something it onto a card???

I would guess they're going to scan them as the new cards are going to be credit card size, so they'll be like photo driving licences.

The photo will be scanned onto your ID card - exactly the same as a drivers
Send the form back with your current grade - I hope any upgrades done in the meantime will be taken into account when they confirm your on-going marshalling. I will check with the licencing dept tomorrow. Any other queries, please ask |

If we're meant to write date of birth etc on the back of the photo then surely it makes sense to just leave the photo paperclipped to the form so they can check the details then scan the photo. Thats what I'm doing anyway.
I upgraded to green early this year so the MSA have my records for grading. Its only taken me about 8 years to get upgraded from trainee!! Somehow I got left behind although I've been an experienced rally marshal for several years now. |

it really isn't that difficult ......
if you firmly attach the photo to the form - no problem the details on the back of the photo are there to be able to re-unite any that get separated in the handling of the envelopes/forms ....... if the photo is suitably attached to the form they don't need to read the back of the photo to check the details to see whether it matches the form as the MSA (rightly) wouldn't expect a marshal to use a photo that wasn't of themself Dave |

Not to be ungrateful, but can anyone explain why they didn't go digital with this particular attempt at verification?
Ok I realise that not every marshal necessarily has access to a computer/internet, but let's be honest, in this day and age, the majority do. It just seems like a lot of expense to go to, to send forms to everyone and then have to compile the information when it comes back in - particularly as the compilation is going to involve entering in the information on the bits of paper into a computer......... Also, for those of us who don't live down the road from our grading office, getting signatures for forms is likely to be a bit of a nightmare. Still, at least it's being done. Hopefully we'll be able to persuade them to stop sending multiple copies of everything to our house now! |

Just be thankful we are moving to a positive annual renewal system! Hopefully a digital interface will be avaialable later, along with digital scanning of cards at each event.
But one step at a time is good. |
