Sebring 2012

Exactly one month away from today. Just curious, who might be going from 10 Tenths.

Just 3 weeks from today and I´ll be heading for the airport.

I will be there, my 25th 12 hour. My first one was 1957 during Spring Break. My favorite was the Chaparral win in 1965.

I will be attending my 15th 12 hr, 1st in '63, Stood in the bleachers on the pit straight during the monsoon in '65. This will be my 3rd in 4 yrs. Usually hang out at turn 10/11. I really appreciate there is still an endurance race race in the US for the best sports cars and drivers in the world. And yes that is a dig at Daytona!

Coach, I will look you up at Turn 7. Can I get close to you at the workers station?

I'm really jealous about '65. I listened to the last 4 hours of that race on the radio. (No TV back then)

Apparently, I will have a flag to identify myself at my chair. My better half has promised me. Find me at Turn 6.

Not wanting to seem out of control, but I it would be nice to be nice to work on getting together sometime during the race weekend. Does anyone have any ideas on this? Maybe meet at one place that everyone knows? I'm not hot on the hotel/casino, if you know what I mean. Maybe a mound, or campsite somewhere?

Sure, just come to the fence in the corner where our little camp is. I'll be one of the guys in orange (not the crew from the safety truck though), just ask for Arjen! I'll work turn 6A (under the bridge, coms only - no flags) and turn 8 as well or I could be on a break sometime during the race but on the practice days I should be in one of those spots.

Always good to say hello to fellow 10/10s members!

Arrive early! (During the week or raceday, doesn't matter). Have a look at the Guest guide http://www.sebringracewaynews.com/2012-Guest-Guide.pdf, parkings on page 12.

Places to watch? A lot: outside turn 17, turn 1 (not sure if you're allowed on the outside as a regular spectator), turn 10, Green Park, Paddock Area, you'll gonna love it! (and there's more!)

Well look for an old guy is a straw hat with a Nikon camera and khaki shorts...that should narrow it down quite a bid...wither wearing a Hawaiin shirt or a t shirt from Petit.

Ayreon:

First arive very early on Sat to park inside or other wide you will have a long walk. Best views: Hairpin, both inside and outside for different apreciation of the cars, turn 10-11 complex (amazing how well the cars are tuned and the pro drivers handle this complex, last turn on the inside (from the paddock).

Be prepared to see the whole track, and you can drive from place to place.
And, look inside the track to experience the variety of enthusiasm the fans bring to the event.

I typically go and camp in the Hairpin, but am having difficulties finding someone to go with this year. May not be in the cards.

You will have a challenge doing that, you will have trouble parking. The track is saying they believe they will close entry and force parking outside, and shuttle in. So....I would be loath to leave a spot because I do not think you will find another, plus you get caught up in the parade of people who just prowl around the entire race.

As far as spectating, really can't think of a bad spot. The spectator mounds are a great idea. I would recommend a folding chair of some sort. Also, watch for ants when you decide to stand or sit somewhere.

Make sure to walk trackside from the hairpin to turn 10, and see the people that set up along there for the race, including the Dodge City gang, simply amazing.

Sunscreen and a hat!

It is such a unique place and experience. Go there for historics or a club event with no crowd and you are just out in the middle of nowhere, go there 12 hour week and you are in a population the size of a small city. You can get very close to the cars on the track and in the paddock. There are amazing vendor collections, the end of the paddock is full of vintage cars that run the days prior to the race. People of all ages and nationalities. World class bikini competition in the spring break zone .

Have some fried gator tail and a Pabst, and have a memorable experience!

Get there as early as possible as they close the parking lots and you may have to take a (free) tram to enter.

View this full size and print it:

Don't forget to visit the gang at turn 10, located in sector 1-L: http://www.svpweb.com/Sebring.html

Watch it full screen.

Sure, general spectators can go to Turn 1 driver's right. It's all RVs but you can make a few friends and Bob's your uncle. It's worth seeing the prototypes skitter over the concrete slabs in the turn. They make an amazing amount of noise and you can almost see the chassis flexing.

Don't forget to wave at the folks in white with the headsets and flags. Gonna be interesting this year, what with the pitlane extension.

I will be at the track from Wed AM onwards, bringing my wife. Trying to find video to explain the gong show to her but I am there for the race. Unless there are more entries popping up this might be my only ALMS race this year.
