BTCC 2013 - Any thoughts??

So, after their summer break it seems like a good time to ask the question... What do people think for next year?

Thoughts and suggestions....

Dave Bartrum has said that motorbase will run two NGTC foci next year, so griffin or smith to go, reckon smith because griffin puts in quite a bit of money.

Hope WSR get a budget to build some NGTC Bimmers as well

My thoughts are that I prefer the S2000 cars. Things I don't like about the NGTC cars;

- They look plasticy
- They roll around too much
- They all have this terrible looking door sill / skirt below the door lines
- They all have the same wheels (no variety)
- They suffer damage too easily
- A lot of them have wheel arches that don't fit the wheels
- They don't sound as good as S2000 / Soupertouring
- They are massively expensive, despite what the regulations state

On that note, the WTCC Focus and the BTCC Focus were testing at Brands Hatch yesterday.

Food for thought, NGTC car with WTCC 1.6 engine?

Naw, the engine rules are the one thing NGTC is getting (close to) universal praise for.

In that case I would turn it around S2000 chassis with NGTC engine.

Hmm...WSR designer and engineer doing CAD work on what looks like some NGTC subframes. http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...72216593_n.jpg

Great find definitely looks like NGTC subframes

http://www.thorneymotorsport.co.uk/r...ules-458.shtml some better pictures of NGTC subframes here look identical.

Also in he picture you posted is that the drive shaft coming from the rear wheels in blue? Could be a Beamer

Judging by Aunt Sally if they do NGTC it would be a beemer.

Just a note on 2013, Gow has said if there are still S2000's, and enough of them , he would consider a S2000 cup.

Can't see this happening, most teams on the grid have NGTC prospects.

Motorbase looking at two Focus NGTC's, will build three, and could sell some to other teams.

Of this years S2000 teams, the only ones Ive not read mention NGTC in their plans/hopes/dreams are Lea Wood, ES and AMD. So if they stick with what they've got and the other teams (WSR, Hard, Motorbase) go NGTC that leaves 4x S2000 cars.

There would have to be someone there to buy and enter the old WSR cars or bring out some old Cruises (Techspeed?) to make that a realitiy

It's a no-brainer really. The engine's basically being used this season to get miles on it before the complete car is there.

On the contrary - Motorbase may well run three cars again next year, it's very much dependent on what Liam decides to do.

They want to keep both Mat and Aron and will also keep Liam if he wants to continue. At the same time, he might decide to switch to GT racing - and could therefore drive a Motorbase Porsche in British GT.

Aren't two of STR's four cars currently being used in Sweden, whilst the other two are Boardman's and O'Young's cars in the WTCC?

Actually, Lea Wood confirmed on this week's Tin Top Tuesday that he's looking to go NGTC as well. Made it sound like whilst they could produce an NGTC car themselves, they'd rather buy one second hand, the problem being that there aren't many second hand NGTC cars to be had right now.

Still not totally convinced on NGTC myself. I think 2013 will definitely be the make or break year for the regulations.

Correct
http://www.touringcartimes.com/article.php?id=7426

They sold the two cars with NGTC engines in which Boardman and Newsham drove last year

As I recall, Mr Holland's participation this year is meant as preparation for a full year in 2013.

Holland was on TTT this week (seems a thoroughly nice bloke, incidentally) and from memory only Snett and Knockhill are definites for him this year at the moment, though he's working on the rest of the year, and no firm plans for 2013 yet.

I'd imagine the second Audi seat is available to anyone with a budget for it - word is it's not the cheapest drive around though...
