24 Hours of Dubai 2017
We are getting closer to the first big race of the year, the 24hrs of Dubai.
Really interesting entry list this year, again close to 100 cars. Below is my observations and an entry list for GT3 down to TCR, I didn't get into the lower tourer and cup cars. You can find the full list at http://www.24hseries.com/24h-Dubai/entry-list Notes *GT3 - 25 cars: 5 Porsches, 5 Audis, 7 Mercedes, 1 Dodge, 1 Corvette, 2 Renaults, 4 Lamborghinis *WRT are back to defend their win from 2016, this time with two cars. The number 4 car with Frijns, IDE, Leonard, Mies and Maes should make for a strong contender. *both Black Falcons look strong as usual, they had a rough gig last year with overheating so will be interesting to see them run full steam. *of the 11 GT3 pro cars, 4 are AMG's and 4 are Lambos. I fancy the chances of the two grasser cars! *GT4 - 20 cars: 10 porsches, 1 Lotus, 1 new BMW, 3 old BMW, 3 Ginettas, 1 Nissan, 1 KTM *this has to be one of the best GT4 turn outs for a enduro like this. *the Nissan looks good with Mardenborugh on board, although it is probably one of the oldest spec cars in the field next to the Ginetta. *the new factory run BMW M4 will make its world wide debut, with collard, Klingmann, and Jorg Miller it looks pretty solid if it can run reliably. *we will also see a broader debut (after a VLN debut this year) for the Audi RS3 LMS TCR. The list just updated today to include a second car so I hope one of them has a decent set of drivers on board to show what it can do. All set to be another entertaining race, I'm looking forward to it.
Some very interesting drivers on that list. I'm not sure who I'd like to win at this stage, but seeing as every edition has been won by a German car, I'll probably end up supporting one of the Lamborghinis! |

I think I'm most excited to see the. We BMW M4 GT4, even if it runs a low profile acting as a test run.

Big list but gt3 is basically all German with a few Lamborghini's. This is the debut of the BMW GT4 right?

Interesting info.
Japanese Direction racing is recruiting a pay driver of 911 Cup car for Team MRS. Price is 3,300,000 yen with an insurance and a hospitality. https://twitter.com/SYOKI458/status/816273050605756416 |

No Motors TV coverage this year? Nothing showing on their schedule.

Kubica will be in the race in a Porsche GT3R from Forch Racing. Hope he does well.

I'm lucky enough to be going along to this - will try and post an update or two whilst there. Not going out until Wednesday and then back on Sunday. Quite a whistle stop tour - but at least the time difference isn't too much (compared to the UK).

I had been ignoring Creventic for the past couple years---simply too much racing to follow, and too much work---but this looks like a great chance to see some Rolex drivers in action ahead of time ... and I just saw their Prototype Challenge schedule.
Is this something new? It seems a pretty courageous venture, fie serious prototype endurance events. Can they fill the field (assuming this isn't new for 2017)? Really psyched that I can watch this on my computer ... or my TV via my computer. WRT? Black Falcon? Grasser? My money would be on of those five. |

I've kinda like this event because it simply kick starts the endurance / racing season for me, especially since we are heading into the dark days of sports for a few months.
I think the protos are a new part of the series as I don't recall them last year. Unfortunately, being on the oppo side of the world, when I'm awake, it's dark there and when I'm asleep, it's light. (no, I don't really like watching headlights from a roof cam on a Tilke drome too much). However, the full coverage has been great in the past. And I'm no longer working from home where it was easy to follow while working so I'll struggle to view this one this year, especially with my schedule later this week. |

Front Runner will be showing large portions of the race live in the UK for those who can get it, Sky channel 468, not sure on other platforms.

Wonder if the Oreca FLM/LMPC is eligible for the prototype series. It should be. I imagine those have not been the easiest races to do commentary on. 3x3 hour races with just a 15 car grid or less

Nah, there's been some good action so far. Worth a watch. The dynamic of the G57s vs the P3s has been interesting. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Impressed by the Porsches here so far; I wasn't convinced by their ability to make reliable endurance racers in the current GT3 market, but three in the top five (so far) is good going.

For some reason (maybe because I cannot tell time) I missed the race. Now I find it in full, on the site.
Now That is a professional operation. WEC, take note. |

I found myself thinking the same thing for timing. Predictive lap, sector times, tracker...Is it really that hard to implement these features? I can't imagine it's a cost thing.

Ah, but the FIA is involved with the wec, so that automatically makes it controlled by those usually out of touch with the common watcher.

The Creventic set up is a great one. The event was fantastic! I'll try and post some photos once I've sifted through all of them. Flew out on Wednesday, was at the track Thursday --> Saturday and then flew back to the UK yesterday.
