Look at the top 10. There is 1 Ford there. That is Goeffrey- Now he HAS to do his best & impress for some sponsorship hopes. Of the rest of them- they either NEED to be impressive, or they have no worries for sponsorship.
You cannot tell me that at 178-180 miles an hour that those drivers gave it all they have! I am sure that sandbagging or positioning is occuring. Let the whining begin! |

Well Geoff or whatever this week name is reckons to "ALI" "bell wrung one too many" sorry.
Furd family will whine, too slow bad aero and etc. Dale should think bout drivin the truck cause JRs gunna have him make a few special deliveries,Marks just done,Roush... well you all know how bad that looks. Maybe we should let em drive the FOCUS? If they were equally prepared and one fell in the woods and no one heard it would Jeffy still not drive one in IROC? |

It's the same thing every year...nobody shows their hand just yet. But you know the 48 will have a 24 rocket inside...he has to make the show...big sponsor & no provisionals. Same thing Gibbs & the 18 did for Tony back in '99.

Definatly! Too Slow & they are NOT giving it their all....or AKA sandbagging.
If these are the actual speeds that they will be qualifying at- Lets all get the lawn chairs out for the 500! It will be a snooze fest! It won't be on our feet hollaring type racing. It will be our butts parked in the chair, prick me with a pin to keep me awake, type racing. |

Qualifying speeds at Daytona last year were mid 180's , they aren't too far off that,
Are they using the roof deflector this time? |

I thought that was part of the areo package that they terminated for this year. Nobody's been talking about the deflector- They are all talking about the smaller plates.

Sorry- I guess I'm just miffed about the smaller plates too.
I've got the feeling that the winner is gonna be whoever is at the front of the train when the checkered flag flies. Kinda like Bobby Hamilton at Talladega last year. COME ON! Bobby Hamilton? Give me a break! I guess I want free racing, where they can go as fast as they want. Did SLOWING them down into packs make racing any safer? NO. |

NASCAR isn't jumping at the Fords complaining.
Read This: NASCAR Will Not Conduct Wind Tests Thursday, January 10, 2002 By PATRICK ZIER Ledger Correspondent DAYTONA BEACH -- John Darby, Winston Cup Series director, said Wednesday NASCAR officials plan no wind tunnel tests based on speeds recorded here this week in tests or in the final session which begins Monday. "We have no plans to take the cars to the wind tunnel following tests," Darby said. "We haven't inspected the cars, and just walking around, after all the cutting and chopping they're so different now than when they came off the trucks it wouldn't serve any purpose." The top Ford teams continued to lag well behind the best Chevys in individual runs Wednesday morning, but picked up when the cars drafted for the first time Wednesday afternoon. Fords driven by Kurt Busch, Ricky Craven, Mark Martin and Dale Jarrett topped 183 mph early in the afternoon, running just behind Ward Burton's Dodge and Kenny Wallace's Chevy. All week, the Fords have been decidedly slower than the Chevys and claim they have a balance problem with too much downforce in the rear and not enough in the front. Chevy spokesmen believe the Fords are deliberately keeping speeds down in hopes of getting a rule change allowing them to extend the nose of the car prior to the Feb. 17 Daytona 500, which would increase front downforce. The Fords claim wind tunnel tests would prove they are at a disadvantage, but Darby indicated no wind tunnel testing is likely until after the race. "We probably wouldn't do it after qualifying. We could do it after the (Twin) 125s, we have that option, but it's not likely," Darby said. The cars would be in race trim for the two Daytona 500 125-mile qualifying races Feb. 14, but making a significant rule change between then and the Daytona 500 would pose problems since there would be little if any time to make adjustments. "If we felt like the rules needed tweaking based on what we see in testing, the Bud Shootout and Speed Weeks, then we have that option," Darby said. "I wouldn't say we won't change anything. We'll take a look at it as we go along." Ford Owner Jack Roush, who could have as many as five entries in the Daytona 500 (Mark Martin, Jeff Burton, Kurt Busch, Matt Kenseth and Greg Biffle) said taking the cars to the wind tunnel "would be a good idea after qualifying or the 125s." "I don't know that you could learn much by doing it now (after testing)," Roush said. "We haven't had our cars (Busch's cars) in the wind tunnel, yet. There's still a lot to be done on them." |

Yeah- He was the master!
He'd say "We don't have nothing for them Fords today" Then go out & win the race! LOL. Mark Martin was always good for that too. he say "Our car is junk" & sure enough he'd win! I'll take "JUNK" any day! LOL. |

Maybe they're perfectionists and even though they have a car good eneough to win, they feel that the car could've been better? Or they're just playing mind-games with the competition

I was more or less thinking back a few years.
I don't count this last year as meaning too much for any of the older guys. Many of them had the shocker of their lives the very first race. Mark, Terry, Kenny--- (the list goes on-) They all can have a fresh season & do better this year over last. You remember that they said that about DE too- & he came back & gave it to em! Don't count them out. They could be there. |
