O'Neill confirmed at Egg?
According to www.btccpages.com Paul O'Neill has signed as the second driver in the egg Astra. That's a turn up! (Not)

I would imagine that it is true, because that was the first sight to deliver a number of stories this year, e.g. Phil Bennett to Proton.
It will be great to see the full potential of Paul, because from what we've seen he is a quality driver. |

Let's hope so! Paul deserves a top ride like that and it'll be great to see him up near the front... just watch those tears when he wins his first race!

Sounds good to me. He should do well with Matt Neal as his teammate.

I just feel sorry for Alan Hyde and co - just imagine it - O'Neil on the outside, Neal on the inside trying to go past him - now add a bit of excitement and ..... eehh gods what fun trying to listen to that

Les, come on, stop being so cruel. We're only in January, it's far too early to start giving Alan nightmares about what he might have to face in the new season

I say good luck to him! He proved he had the speed last season in production, and should add a bit of 'character' to the grid!

Neal and O'Neill! I like it. But its amusing how Mel C's bloke, a leading champion racer, can't get a drive, when her half-brother with no frontline racing experience gets one freed up by Plato's sacking. Still, I'm hoping for some top Proddies to race in Tourers this year, what are Harrison, Moen, Boardman and Graves / Kaye up to?

Just seen on the Autosport website that the drive has been confirmed for Paul, good for him I wish him the best of luck. I am sure he will learn a lot from Thompson and Muller and use that to his advantage. I look forward to seeing how he progreses over the season.

Congratulations!!!!!!!!
Paul - a MASSIVE well done, you deserve this opportunity after you drove well last year.
I'm sure the "gang" from ten-tenths are going to be right behind you! Hugs, ps. Paul and Matty in the same team - what fun this is going to be! |

It'll spoil your enjoyment, Trace - you'll be hiding behind your hands all this season

Well done Paul!

Don't believe everything you read in the papers... And secondly, Plato was not sacked from Vauxhall, his contract came to an end. Thirdly, O'Neill's seat is at Egg Sport, not Vauxhall Motorsport, so he's hardly taking Plato's seat. I'm sure many will agree that your opinion that he has no frontline racing is just a tad unfair to the guy. PS - congratulations Paul. Last edited by touringlegend; 24 Jan 2002 at 17:58. |

That is a bit harsh on Owy, because the production category is the next step below the Tourers, so it's a natural progression, and we know he has speed and skill & as Touringlegend said JP's contract expired.

Great news to get Paul moving up from the Production Class (and lets face it, we needed some good news after the terrible recent news that Matt Neal is returning to the BTCC ) |
