Another (Old) Teazer!
OK. Another one for those with good memories/reference books....
Who is it? What's the car? When was it taken? Where was it taken? Last edited by Aysedasi; 13 Mar 2010 at 20:44. |

The car reminds me of one ot that Eastern Germany post was sportscar, now I can just remember the name, maybe EWM....
Edgar (father of Jurgen) Barth was one of the drivers, before "jumping the wall" to start anew in West Germany. |

Hey! Fausto, I am suitably impressed!
The driver is indeed Edgar Barth. You're also very close on the name of the car. I guess you kinda have to look upon the car in admiration - that's a clue! |

That's the one!
As there seem to be no other takers on this, I can tell you that the shot is of Edgar Barth in the AWE in a sportscar support race to the German Grand Prix at the Nurburgring in 1956. The picture was taken by none other than my good mate Chris Green. I've been trying to track down some detail of the race without success. It isn't even listed on http://bruce.sitepak.net/results/results.html and the webmaster there has no idea either!! If anyone else can find out anything about this race, I'd appreciate the info. |

Here you go, Aysedasi. This is everything I've got on the race. Had me completely stumped with the AWE, though. I don't think I have ever seen a picture of one before.
The support races to the German GP are infuriating. They often get reported in tantalising precis by Motor Sport, leaving you keen to find more. The results below are gleaned from Motor Sport and Autosport reports from 1956. Nurburgring August 5 1956 Sports Cars to 1500cc 160km 1 Hans Herrmann 51 Porsche 550 Spider 2 Stirling Moss Maserati 150S 3 Roy Salvadori 37 Cooper T39 4 Richard von Frankenberg Porsche 550 Spider 5 Umberto Maglioli Porsche 550 Spider 6 Jean Behra Maserati 150S 7 Jack Brabham Cooper T39 8 E Binner AWE r Edgar Barth 56 AWE r Milhoux Gordini other starters Wolfgang von Trips Porsche 550 Spider Rosenhammer AWE Thiel AWE Cesare Perdisa Maserati Hicks Lotus David Piper Lotus Power Cooper |

That's absolutely fantastic, Tim. Thank you very much. I will copy off the details and send them to my pal Mr. Green.
