POLL: 2002 F3000 champion?

With Wilson, Enge and Webber unlikelly to return, and rookies arely in contention, the battle for the 2002 title could be a thriller, with many talented drivers looking cemented in their seats. Petrobras Jnr look strong afetr their late-season form, but how much of that was down tot heir unique fast-circuit rear wing setup?

I think it will be Antonio Pizzonia at the moment - but thats before a lot of other drivers have been put in the frame for seats etc....

For the record my pick is Mauricio, partly on account of the rear wing thing, and partly due to the reasons outlined in my seperate post about the guy.

The 'rear wing thing' as I put it is to do with the fact that much of Petrobras Jnr's strong form in the fast races can be attributed to their use of a unique rear wing setup, where they place the bar much lower,m producing much better handling. As a result of this, many people tip them for success next year, however a) This advantage will only be there for Hockenheim and Monza and b) The other teams would be able to copy it for next year.

Anyway, come to think of it the chassis is new for next year, so it may produce a surprise success from elsewhere anyway.

Shooting from the hip

If the way it looks now is carried over to next season - Antonio Pizzonia.

I'm surprised Sebastien Bourdais wasn't on the list for the poll - he is certainly expecting to be champion, and if it is true that he will join SuperNova next year he has a good chance.

Having said that, I voted for Ricardo Sperafico...

I have voted for Friesacher, but if Bourdais gets the right car underneath him, he has every chance of winning, and i hope he does!

Yeah, I realised yesterday that I'd forgotten about Seb. I should've had him on there, partly because he is a likely contender, but also as I found it funny that Autosport referred to hima s looking like an economcis student (I study economics myself). But what's this 'if Bourdais gets the right car underneath him' stuff? The F3000 cars are all identical.

Pizzonia will be the man to beat if he stays with Petrobras. If Bas Leinders does another year he will be one to watch. KTR and Leinders are likely to get good backing from BASTOS and others and will be up for the game. Bourdais will be good as well.

Ricardo!!!!! :)

Well...Ricardo Sperafico of course

Seen that guy driving in 99 in Assen, taking 3rd place at the Nurburgring...and must say was impressed from the first time seeing him for real.

Not to mention the amount of pictures i took of him and his car only

Go Ricardo! (and maybe Rodrigo back with Coloni?)

Interesting to see that Sperafico has more votes than Pizzonia at the moment...
