Should the Hungaroring even be on the calendar any more??
Thought I'd preempt the masses and start up the inevitable thread.... (who says the F1 forum's too predictable these days?? )

Yes, that was the most boring, dull processional, hopeless race I've seen since San Marino, and before that, Hungary last year. I mean - did anything worth mentioning actually happen? Anything?
I watched the race with dad, and I tell you, he was asleep by lap 5. Asleep. I said to him 'bloody hell this is boring' - when I got no reply I looked to my right and saw him lying there asleep. Gee F1 is exciting. |

keeping this race on the calendar isn't such a racing issue its a political one. not until Russia gets a GP will Hungary even be considered to be dropped because there are no other Eastern-European GP's, and Bernie wants to get this untapped and largely unexploited populated area interested in F1 and ultimately into his channel.
i definately think its out-run its time on the calendar but then again - i don't own a digital channel worth millions and let greed rule my ethics. |

#1: It's not just that, and it's not even as cynical as you make out. It's basic marketing. Nothing sinister. There's a market there hungry (pardon the pun!! ) for F1. There are (as yet) no other comparable circuits in the region and fair's fair. Getting an audiance interested in the sport gets them interested into merchandising, the sponsorship around the sport and is a basic part of a global marketing plan. I say keep it for the time being.

thats exactly what i said though i hinted at specific marketing plans Tris
is this like China and the tobacco companies that are trying to tap into the huge market that have never heard of cigarettes being fatal/dangerous? if it is - thats funny because they've only gone and bloody lobbied Bernie to put a chinese GP on the calendar, (in Delboy style) |

Oh China HAVE heard about cigs being dangerous. They've also heard about our health and safety laws in the workplace. And why has manufacturing of electronics/clothes/anything you care to mention declined in the West over the past five years?? Because production has been moved to China et al where it's cheaper. China makes shed-loads of dosh. It's how they make a living. Same with the Hungarioan GP. They allow tobacco sponsorship to beamed directly into Europes homes and they keep their GP. PLUS it opens up a new fan base who quite fancy a new mobile phone beacuse they can now afford one. "Ahh. See those Ferraris with their Vodaphone logos, dear??" etc.

Actually, this wasn't the worst race of the year... Just looked that way because Rubens nearly lapped the field.
That said, the track is utter rubbish, and if any of the current tracks will be dumped, this should be the second to go (after Imola). |

This looks like a good track for chassis development, thats it. Horrible for racing! Kimmi was the only one that seemed to be able to launch any kind of an offence.

I don't know... but the quality of race a circuit can provide has never been an important consideration when adding a track to the calendar. Just think of Monaco...
I say, if the track has good attendance, and is supported by the locals there is no reason there should not be a race in Hungary on the Hungaroring. It's not their fault their circuit produces boring races. |

imola should go before hungary certainly, and monaco, and indianapolis.
surely they could modify the circuit a little to make it more interesting, they dont necessarily have to get rid of it. |

Hungary fits in well with F1's current trend of dull/boring tracks.
All the other good tracks will soon be made similar to Hungary. |

Jeez. Let's not compare Monaco to Hungaroring. In Monaco you have history. You can't pass, but just going around it without mistakes is a great accomplishment.
But why we want a track made on purpose without passing? |

I think its a great track. Its not some non-descript cookie cutter race track. Yeah it doesnt present a good 'race' but tracks that are great for driving are rarely great for racing. After Hungary should we axe Monaco?

I liked the race - The the director that did the Australian feed did a great job and showed battles and pitstops from the leaders to the tail enders.
Also I like the track, I had a go of it on GP3 to increase my understanding of the track. It has a nice feel to it and did I say that I liked this race. |

No it should NOT be on the calendar - nor should Barcelona. Hungary is always boring and even the atmosphere on the circuit is not as exciting as places like Monza, Montreal, Indy.
My fav circuit at present is Indy - because we always see lots of overtaking - they just need to get rid of some of the slower corners and it'll be even better. Monza is another good circut - as is Spa. |

Maybe they should do a swap, Brno for the F1, and the Hungaroring getting the bikes. The Hungaroring is a dull unexciting track to watch races and not that much fun to drive compared to Spa or Monaco, and the former has thrilling racing, the ever present threat of rain, and lots of challenging corners, while the latter has historical prestige and completing the race without hitting the barriers is an achievement. Hungary's track has none of this. I hope the Moscow street race will replace this, but the F1 schedule needs a huge overhaul. Scheduling this one after the 3 week break was especially stupid- people needed somethign thrilling to get us back into it.

Hungary is only on the calender because Bernie wanted a race behind the former Iron Curtain. With the end of the Cold War, the race was held simply to give Eastern Europeans a chance to watch F1.
With the signing of a deal to host an F1 race in Russia (that's if it gets off the ground though...) Hungary will become surplus to requirements and will therefore most likely be dropped. |

I was thinking... What if turn one ran into turn 3. Turn 5 was pushed back another 200-300 meters. Make the 6/7 flip flop into a kink therefore making turn 8 a possible passing spot along with the new turn 5?
