Classics at Rockingham - Which Circuit?

Does anyone know which circuit at Rockingham will be used for the CTCRC/BARC meeting on April 12/13?

I've seen somewhere that its the road circuit but on their website Rockingham have an 'International Long' and an 'International Short'.

Will we be using one of these?

I was considering booking a test day there if there is any space so I might as well get the right circuit....

Happy New Year Peter - two years ago they had a test day or half day on the Saturday or Friday as I recall - the circuit we used was the one that turns left / right off the banking as opposed to left / left

Looking at their site it was the 'Historic' - whether thats what we get this year......

Hi Peter, from memory of our race there 2 years ago I think it is not the circuit outlined in red on the CTCRC website under 'lap records', I think Jos is right about it being the 'Historic'- all the variations are on Rockingham's website. I am really looking forward to going back there. What a great place, although I was amazed that we were a little short of paddock room at such a new venue!

It may be the historic link circuit. Half oval and then just before turn two it goes on to the infield around the back then joins back just after turn three (where the international circuits join.

Yep - historic circuit it is, left onto infield, then chicane. Not left then left as per "international"
Surprised you like it SC, most people I know don't, doesn't flow, one radiused bend follows another until you get back onto the oval, too sterile. Agree about the size of paddock though. Look forward to seeing you all again.

Hi Tony - I meant the venue itself in a general sense not the actual circuit. The place is memorable , the circuit did little for me. I can think of plenty of other places I'd rather race. In fact not particularly happy memories as I was cruising in 3rd place when my gearbox exploded with 3 laps to go ! Not to mention being hauled out of the car when in the holding bay and being marched to the medical centre completely in the dark before being breath tested - clear of course- then having to run back to the car and rush onto the circuit where the grid was already formed - not ideal preparation!
Anyway Tony isn't it about time you started a 'Rockingham Classic' thread........

Ooh I s'pose we should start doing those again shouldn't we. Rockingham's still a way off yet (I hope - still got a car to build !!!) so maybe wait a little bit. Could do a general Classic Package thread though couldn't we ?

Entry form says 2.246 miles which is close enough to the website 2.25 miles to make it the historic circuit again

Looked at the layouts... Seems just plain stupid not to use turn 1 of the oval!

Probably something to do with insurance of FIA regs, though... Can't let those race cars go fast now, can we?

My entry forms arrived Monday but I think it was the G1 set not CT

We may not have used Turn 1 but as I recall I was more or less flat (120 mph !) through turn 4 and on the main straight - does that count ? !

I believe there is some ruling that only allows normal circuit race formulas to use one banked turn, hence the cut down through the end of the pit road and back onto the straight.

Terrible circuit for old cars, I was there on opening day with a 1911 RMC ex Brooklands car, give me anywhere else in preference! What about Cadwell instead! anyway Rockingham have just sacked loads of office staff including the chap who organised all the actual club racing, saw him at the Pom at silverstone with a long face, so good luck!

Personally Rockingham is, along with Lydden, one of those circuits that I can write off my calender without a second thought. The sort of circuit I'll only bother with if chasing a championship!

Unfortunatley, when I revamped the CTCRC site earlier in the year the only circuit layout I could find was the one now on the site. I remember thinking at the time "I wonder how long before someone makes a comment about that!

Thanks Slowcoach ;-)
