It is a non debatable rule, and the penalty was handed out efficiently.
Both Ambrose and the team knew the consequences as soon as it happened, and they never looked like fighting it, so yes it was justified. Speeding in pit lane gets a drive through, so running into another competitor definitely should by comparison. |

QLD penalties
Interesting isnt it that Big Nose was speeding in pit lane but broke an engine before being given his penalty!
http://www.cams.com.au/content.asp?PageID=Article&ObjectID=210 Got a $300 fine, how long after the offence did the engine break, and was he going to be given a drive through? HMMM very strange. Also, no penalties for anyone involved in the restart at Darwin, "....Stewards have identified and recommended procedural changes to communication and procedure for future recoveries." Well lucky no-one died I suppose |

Skaife pitted on laps 44 and 47 and retired on lap 88.
Yep - they certainly were thinking hard about that one.... |

Jesus ! And all them Holden fans wonder why Ford fans have said there's 2 sets of rules ....one for HRT and one for the rest of the teams to abide by.
Thanks for the info racetime and fido. |

I'm not sure, but i thought Scaife was caught speeding in pit-lane AFTER his engine had blown and he was coasting in?

More likely that when they downloaded the engine data after the race they found that HRT had effectively bypassed the data collection unit when he came into pit lane at the end and thus judged them guilty of attempting to manipulate the system!

It depends on the actual circumstances here on this one. If Skaife was over 40 in the lane he may have been estimating his speed visually (or not bothering to after the race was shot) because the dash display readout may not have been functioning. It depends on how their system is set up. Was the engine actually still running at all (observers step forward) or was he rolling in neutral? Still, $300 is a lot less than the bill for the engine damage. BTW, does anybody know what stopped the car? In AA, Skaife reported that when he stepped on the throttle it had a misfire coming out of turn 3. Ironic also that he lost the engine last year (??) at the same point. |

I am a fanatical Ford fan, and a huge supporter of Ambrose, but it was his fault and a just penalty was handed out. Hurts me to say it though!

But when skaife did it at perth it was before the rules were changed so that in pitlane any driver wanting to pull into the fast lane must give way to any cars already in the fast lane. So ambroses penalty was justified. |

I was at the pit entry for the Qld 300 and Skaife was picked up for speeding when coasting in with an expiored engine. Therefore the speed limiter would not have been operational and i'd be surprised if road speed was one of the options they can dial up on the dash read out. Skaife might have been too peeved to bother looking at it anyway.
I agree entirely with Ambrose's penalty and I was impressed by the way he handled it. He knew he'd done wrong and took his punishment without tears or tantrums. |

I think that Skaife couldn't have cared less once the race was lost- can you blame him? $300 is small beer when the bill for a lunched engine would be much more than that.
I agree, the last thing on his mind would've been 40ks when the Championship may have just gone out the window. |
