Favourite Oulton Park Post?

OK Folks. What is your favourite Oulton Park Post?

Answers for best view and best action.

Personally I have only been on Lodge at last year's BTCC event.

Ooohhh!!

Old Hall for the experience of big incident handling. Plus it's the first corner, so you get to see some mad dashes on the first lap. (And the drivers are more likely to wave on that corner as they've just passed the chequered flag )

Next fave is Cascades. On the outside, you can see the action from The Avenue, out to Island, and then back through Knicker. The post on the inside of the bend can be 'exciting'!

Don't forget Shell - a fabulous view of Island bend, followed by all the outbraking dramas into the hairpin, and the post is so so close to the circuit on the exit. Not one for the faint hearted!

It really depends on what duty you perform.
For example, Warwick (Bailey) Bridge might not be that exciting if you're an incident marshal or Observer, but can be good for a flaggie on blue!

Personally, I don't have a favourite, as I find something nearly always happens at all posts at Oulton (Yes even Water Tower).

On a wet day Old Hall has to be one of the best, closely followed by Fosters.
However, I agree with the Muppet about Shell - it's a great post with good views of one of the fastest parts of the track. You also get more than the average number of incidents here as well!

My favourite has to be Shell. To see a F3 at full throttle coming around Island then hard on the brakes, snaking all over the place to out brake the driver in front. Negoiating the banked hairpin balanced on the throttle then judging where and when to plant the throttle to the floor to make a good exit....sorts the men from boys.
But the best bit is ....no P.A, system

My favourite anywhere away from the tannoy system unless it's either a long race or a race which has pit stops because then you can use the commentator to tell you the race order.

A plea to any commentator please could you tell me the number, type and colour of the vehicle so that I know what I'm looking out for. Bob Rae's little red book says use the commentators so this is my plea to them.

Actually I thought that the most spectacular point was the 'real' Knickerbrook, before it was stifled and ruined by a chicane....

Continuing along those lines, if you sit at Fosters and imagine what could have been ... the long circuit would have gently turned left at Hilltop, along the ridge by the trees, and then a Laguna Seca style Corkscrew bend down the slope could have been built, leading straight into the unspoilt Knickerbrook. Now that would have been good!! (And still could, if someone with a bit of imagination and creativity and money buys OP!)

I think Lodge has changed since Russell Spence tried to fly his BTCC Renault. With all that catch fencing and deep gravel everyone takes it much more cautiously. I remember a few years ago charging for parking there!!!
Druids has been quite spectacular this year. What with the new chicane the speeds are much faster all the way from Knickerbrook through Warwick (Bailey) Bridge.
If we are talking BTCC only - then I don't think they've ever done Shell (but must be No.1 for me as I met hubby there!!)

Depending upon whats racing for me it has to be either Druids (had my biggest ever accident there - Danny Watts in a Formula Renault) or Island/Foulstons. To watch an F3 car go through Island bend without lifting on the throttle is pretty awesome to say the least.
However, both Lodge and Fosters are great posts for most formulas especially Formula Ford.

I know I'm biased but apart from incident on pit straight I don't think there are any bad posts at Oulton.

Deer leap, on flags.

Was still twitching the following week-end.

Yes they have!
I remember a big accident there with David Leslie & Derek Warwick......it all happened backwards too!!

I think Warwick was knocked out in the impact.
This must have been about 6/7 years ago, before Mr Gow & Ms Birrell decided not to use the full circuit due to speccies not being able to see up there!!

My favourite post at Oulton and any other circuit which I visit is one with an unlocked toilet nearby.

And I thought that the BTCC crowd swapped to the Fosters circuit because of that accident! (Perhaps they were scared of Island bend?)

Island bend during a GT race has to be one of the best on the circuit, the noise and speed are incredible.

Give me Lodge corner during a Formula Ford race, locked up wheels everywhere!

Old Hall for a Touring Car race, Matt Neal usually ends up in the barriers on the run down to the first corner.

Although Fosters will be special to me as it was my first ever post.

Too true.

I was flagging at Shell In that day and am really glad that some years earlier I managed to persuade the circuit to move the Shell in flag point to where it is today as Leslie's car completely demolished the tyre and earth banking where the old flag point had been was completly obliterated...

There aren't any really bad posts at Oulton (except Foulstons Advance) but my favourite is Deer Leap. No-where do you get as close to the cars as there.

Did Water Tower for the first time ever at the weekend. Nothing happened there either but had a cracking view of the starts and ends of overtaking manouvers (spelling?!). Definite spot for the future. Don't always want anything to do - as long as I have a good day and everyone else has a good laugh too then I've succeeded as an I.O. (BTW - it's official now - I got my badge on Saturday!!)
