FF1600 Festival this year
Seems there is an FF1600 Festival at Silverstone on 8th (?) November.
Anybody know more about it? Is it a replacement for the insipid and uninspiring 'Carnival' which is really no more than a benefit for Castle Combe series regulars and specialists? |

I got an entry form through on Wednesday out of the blue.
However I won't be paying £200 for a race entry until I see how many laps and qualifying confirmed (note the entry had no information on race distance on the FF1600's however had information on the other races) also £200 for not the GP circuit is a bit dissapointing, this is getting closer towards double header fees....but its a single unconfirmed distance / qualifying race. Looks fun but a tad expensive and lacking information. |

spoke to the BDRC (the organisers). it is for heats, semi, last chance and final. if less entries you are gauranteed two heats but apparently had 40 entries last year...
seems good value and at a good FF track not used by many, aprt from (I think) maybe one Midlands round per year which won't make a lot of difference. On of the problems with other such meetings is that it always 'favours' one series or another and then has difficulty drawing in entries from the Oulton boys etc. |

So how does this work if i have a brscc membership only, do i have to pay additional for the club entry?
I like the idea of this event just curious how easy it would be. Matt how come you got an entry form in the post? |

ahhh so it sounds like £200 gets you a lot of racing, - thats more like it.
Richard, I have no idea why I got an entry through the post I didn't even know about the race, let alone ask for an entry. Still sounds quite good. |

No membership required. Note Winter F3 supports FF1600 - not the way around!
“Formula Ford 1600 cars have always entertained at Silverstone, and the BRDC have been very pleased with the response following the Walter Hayes race last November and our Jim Walsh Trophy Race on the Grand Prix Circuit in May. It is fitting that the category should headline a BRDC race meeting.” For further details please contact: James Beckett - Assistant Club Secretary Tel: 01327 320242 Fax: 01327 858433 Email: James.Beckett@brdc.co.uk BRDC WALTER HAYES TROPHY Incorporating the Winter Warmer Raceday SILVERSTONE NATIONAL CIRCUIT Saturday/Sunday 8-9 November 2003 SATURDAY 8th NOVEMBER 2003 09.00 - 09.15 WINTER MINI QUALIFYING 09.20 - 09.40 F3 QUALIFYING 09.50 - 10.05 CLUBMANS QUALIFYING 10.10 - 10.25 8 CLUBS QUALIFYING 10.35 - 10.50 WALTER HAYES TROPHY FF1600 Ht.1 QUAL 11.00 - 11.15 WALTER HAYES TROPHY FF1600 Ht.2 QUAL 11.25 - 11.40 WALTER HAYES TROPHY FF1600 Ht.3 QUAL LUNCH BREAK 12.15 Race 1 WINTER MINI - 12 laps 12.40 Race 2 F3 WINTER SERIES - 25 laps 13.05 Race 3 CLUBMANS - 12 laps 13.45 Race 4 8 CLUBS REVIVAL HANDICAP - 8 laps 14.15 Race 5 WALTER HAYES TROPHY FF Ht.1 10 laps 14.40 Race 6 WALTER HAYES TROPHY FF Ht.2 10 laps 15.05 Race 7 WALTER HAYES TROPHY FF Ht.3 10 laps 15.30 Race 8 F3 WINTER SERIES - 25 laps SUNDAY 9th NOVEMBER 2003 11.05 - 11.20 BRDC SINGLE SEATER QUALIFYING 11.30 - 11.45 HISTORIC SPORTSCARS QUALIFYING Racing as soon as possible after the completion of practice 12.00 Race 9 WALTER HAYES TROPHY FF Semi Final 12 laps Race 10 WALTER HAYES TROPHY FF Semi Final 12 laps Race 11 BRDC SINGLE SEATERS - 12 laps Race 12 8 CLUBS REVIVAL SCRATCH RACE - 12 laps Race 13 WALTER HAYES TROPHY FF Last Chance 8 laps Race 14 HISTORIC SPORTSCARS - 12 laps Race 15 BRDC SINGLE SEATERS - 12 laps Race 16 WALTER HAYES TROPHY FF1600 FINAL - 15 laps |

Looks good, I will be there. Its a shame that they cannot put on something like that at the 'real' FF festival.

They do Just, it's called the 'King of Kents' - last year was two heats and then a 20 lap final immediately before the main Zetec final.

To answer a few questions -
This event is designed for the competitor - and FF1600 does indeed headline the programme. The overall winner will attend the BRDC Annual Awards to have the Walter Hayes Trophy presented to him/her by Sir Jackie Stewart OBE (BRDC President). Action is on the National Circuit and testing is available the day before. Cars of all ages are eligible - with class structures running in each heat to allow people to win prizes with all ages of FF1600 car. The Walter Hayes Trophy Meeting is the final event organised by the BRDC in their 75th Anniversary year. The more FF1600 entrants - the better the event, and the Walter Hayes Trophy has been well supported in the last two years. Entry Forms, event provisional timetable and press release are now available from the BRDC. Go on - give it a go !! |

Justin, after the 20, put my name in as 21, I am up for it!
The event is being organised by the BRDC / James Beckett's influence and passion for racing has pushed this to a headline event for the weekend. It is not and should not be confused with the "festival" at Brands. The "F" word was put out by the press not the organisers, it seems. It will be an excellent centrally located meeting with a good chance of learning the track through one, two or three races (incl the final.) I believe the organisers (JB and Co at the BRDC) have also gone to great lenths to invite the drivers from over the water to join in. What a bench mark! All you need is reliability, a little luck, big b*lls and a positive competitive attitude. gavin Wills won last year in his swift on a wet but drying track, the marshalls ranked it as the best race of the day. (shock! not a first for FF's is it?) At £200 it is excellent value and with a good three course shoulder rubbing dinner for the winner. Go on.....go for it! |

Anyone know of a competitive car that may be available for hire. I would certainly travel across the pond.

Can confirm that Itegosport is entering a certain DM as it's driver. If I have the nerves I will be on the pit wall, not the most comfortable of places for me!
Those in the SoM hopefully have looked the the points table because each championship place gained is worth £100!With Gavin missing, me out, there are possibilities for at least 10 for Justin!!! Go for it! |

First time out at Cadwell a few years ago I thought, I know, I'll follow Dave Morgan around to learn the track.
Got to Mansfield on the out-lap and he spun off after braking about 50 yards too late and I nearly T-boned him and then went off across the grass. Do you really want to let him drive again? Mind you, he did say it was first time he had spun since 1978! |

This meeting looks ace.
Reminds me of the reason I've stopped dicking around with Zetecs, Mono and Formula Vauxhall Lotuses and come back to where the real action is... FF1600. |

It does look good doesn't it? James is doing a really fantastic job with this and I'm sure it will prove to be a great event.
When I saw the timetable I was almost half-tempted to see if I could rush through and an ARDS course, get a licence, hire a car and enter. But then I remembered that I'm perfectly capable of making an idiot of myself without getting behind the wheel... |
