Gerrit should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
250s to stay...........

........ until the end of 2009. None of the manufacturers can afford racing another money-eating class, so by common agreement the 250 class will remain as is until the end of 2009 at least!!!!!!!!!!!! Hopefully this will encourage a few more manufacturers to join the fun, and for those participating to continue development. This can only be good for the class now that the rules will be stable for some time to come.

Great news. But are the 125s in the same boat or are they still to be phased out?

I hope not as it produces the best racing in the world.

Excellent news. The MotoGP class is the pinnacle but we need the 250s and 125s; as world championships in their own right as well as as feeders to MotoGP - anyone care to calculate how many of the MotoGP grid have raced in the 125cc W/C or 250cc W/C or both?

I know Xaus raced German Superbikes before going World Supersport, but he may have done some 250cc stuff beforehand, not sure it would have been world level though.

The decision to retain the 250s was a unanimous decision by the members of the MSMA, i.e. the factories and therefore more or less official. The 990s are eating so much money that none of them can afford a second money-eating class at GP level. So we can forget the SS600s taking over.
