Another tyre Question

Does anyone have experience of offset tyre pressures?
Eg. tyre pressure rises with temp, thus on a clockwise circuit, the outer two tyres end up with slightly higher pressure than the inner two. Would starting with slightly lower pressure in the two outside tyres have an end result whereby all four tyres could be equal pressure?

The answer to your question is yes, it can work quite well if you are sensible and use it in moderation. Obviously if for example the outside front continues to grow then you've got an understeer problem that won't be fixed just by lowering/rasing the pressure. There is an order to checking the pressures/temperatures of the tyres: but firstly get whoever helps you to locate themselves near the pit entrance, there is know point in checkiing them if you in garage 26 at Silverstone for obvious reasons.

Inspection order: front left, rear left, rear right, front right and the check the front left again to give you some idea of the temperature/pressure drop during the time its taken for you to get round all the tyres. Note: this order is for a clockwise circuit direction.

If you can afford it a Pyrometer is a worth while investment.

Thanks terje, we will try it at the next test session. Good point about the understeer, hadnt thought of that.

Most pyro's seem to be around the 200+ quid mark, doesn anyone know where a cheaper but effective one can be found?

I bought a digital thermometer to measure water temp in radiator,I think it goes up to around 150 deg C
I got it from the local hardware shop for around £12,it is actually designed for cooking use!
