JGTC in the USA?
Laguna Seca has been touted for a long time to be on the jgtcs calendar for 2004 any news on this? Is it official yet or does it seem a little unlikely now. Exposure of this series to the USA and Europe will revolutionise sportscar racing i feel as GTS will morph into allowing these cars race along side the current crop of GTS cars and thus facilitate Japanese Manufacturers joining the Class with the result being GTS (or GT1 as it will be) being the leading class at le mans. as i feel manufactures will be more willing to fund less expensive programs in this class as LmP is probably to expensive

Well if JGTC wants to have a race in the states they should run at Laguna during the ALMS weekend. That would be a real good show and would also provide a real good reason to come as a spectator.

If there is a JGTC race it wil be at Homestead, the rovel.
The ACO have said LMP/prototypes will always be the top class. Also a top GTS program costs just as much as a LMP1 program. GTS is struggling just as much as LMP1 in the US. |

BTW a Prodrive 550 will race in the JGTC. It will have less power, lower rear wing and steel brakes. The old F1 GTRs were very restricted in the JGTC. |

I may have got the name wrong, but it will be a roval.
Having said that I have heard Homestead mentioned when talking about the JGTC in the US. The name stuck in my mind for some reason. Last edited by JAG; 17 Feb 2004 at 19:16. |

I had always heard Fontana, Southern California. Homestead would be interesting and would probably pull a heck of a crowd, due to the popularity of the car types--California would be the same. I think transport costs would kill the idea of Homestead....too bad, only a three hour trip south for me!

Homestead was in talks for the MotoGP, not JGTC. If its a roval it will be California Speedway, probably in conjunction with IRL or GA, neither of which draw in the facility. If its California Speedway, its a freakin' shame. It will be a completely wasted opportunity. |
