PG did say that 19 cars would take the grid in Monterey, Mexico - round 2 of the CCWS. This would be great news.

If Mazzacane drives for Fittipaldi, what shop are they going to use?

Seeing as OWRS's tightness probably caused Fernandez to leave and nearly left Pat sitting at home, I don't see how Fittipaldi's team could happen. By that I mean I don't see how Emmo could come up with much of a budget and why would OWRS pay for him?

Snrub, At the risk of being sensored for not being polite and politically correct on this thread... If you don't know that Emerson Fitipaldi has more money than most gods, then you should't be considered a veteran on this site! He could run a two car team with the money in his wallet! Whether or not he wants to, is the question... Jonesey.

if Gaston lines up with Emmo or any team for that matter.
How do you guys rate his chances ?
I mean he wasnt super impressive in F1 and Im not sure what he has done since then , but could Champcars just bring the best out of gaston ?

I suspect the repair shop! It's a shame that Townsend Bell wasn't given a second chance IMO.

Keep in mind that Gaston was on a really crappy Minardi team when he was in F1. So I don't think that he has had a chance to prove himself.

Alex K has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
But he was also with Prost, with Astromega in F3000... he was slow everything he drove. OK maybe he was quick in Sportscars and Renault 2000, but it is not the same as F3000 and F1. He is just pay-guy. I think Emmo should find better driver with cash if he want to be successful, with Gaston it will be very difficult.

They won't need the repair shop - he's slow, not a crasher.

Gaston is a nice guy, but having seen him at Silverstone in 01 he was VISIBLY slower than Alesi, desperately searching for the Apex at Copse, being too hard on the brakes, scrappy mid-turn and wide on the exit and therefore slower into Becketts ā€“ this was EVERY lap. Sorry, but heā€™s not a mega talent, but Yoong looked pretty useful in a Coyne car last season, so you never know, maybe he can run ahead of Gonzalez and such like, but he wonā€™t be a title challenger, lets put it like thatā€¦!

If he'll be in reynard chassis he'll be the slowest guy on track. I don't very good A. Sperafico, but I remember him from his Super Nova times... GastĆ³n will be slower even than Alexandre.

PS. I hope I'm wrong

Jonesey, Emmo may have money but he's not going to spend his own. If he was, he'd have done it two months ago. He was funded by CART last year and he and Dingman have split for whatever reason.

Mazzacane will be faster than Alex Sperafico.

Gaston was a midfielder in F3000, Alex was down the back.

And Alex Sperafico hasn't driven for SuperNova, incidentally.

Give the guy a chance. Why rubbish him before you have seen him drive a Champ Car?

Still no one knows where he'll be running this car from. Emmo doesn't have his own shop, and Conquest probably won't have the capacity now tht they're running 2 cars.

It's nearly 3 years since Gaston drove in a single-seater, and he didn't do well when he did. I can see him giving Coyne soem comeptition, but not much else.

Hmm if Emmo got so much money, why donĀ“t he buy a driver with better merits than Mazzacane?

With Servia or Enge, or Keohane, or Melo, or whoever else, not a chance -- tha is my opinion

First, I don't think that sort of comment should be sensored. As for the topic at hand sure Emmo's got some money, but if he's purely financing it himself why wouldn't he show up at the season opener? (and announced earlier like Indycool mentioned) Also, why would the OWRS guys be subsidizing an extra guy like Pat if someone else was willing to finance a car?

As for my post count that is simply an indication that I post too much!

Its good for CART to have 19 now, Mazzacane is a huge ? though. As I have read in the thread its very split on the sides being taken. One point I would like to make is that the F1 cars are more tech advanced than a champ car. So problems with a bad car shows on the driver. The car makes or breaks the driver. In CART the drivers have more to do with the ride than F1, thatas why I prefer CART. So his F1 might not be as good of a preview. I think he is a good future diver in the series, but needs the valuable experience. I see him as a CART and not an F1 driver. But we will all see starting in Mexico. Good luck, Be safe and lets have a great year. See you in Long Beach.

One of the reasons Emo has so much money is because he is a very smart businessman. Even if it hadn't been for his racing career, he would be rich. Rich people don't get rich, but spending money out of their own pockets to run a race car team.

In today's champ car, how much would it cost Emmo to run one car all year?
