HSCC Cadwell Park - The Mountain

With next weekend's HSCC meeting at Cadwell Park just around the corner can anybody tell me whether any of the historic cars that race there ever catch any "air" as they crest the mountain?
I'm planning my photo spots and would love a few evocative "yumping" shot's if they are likely.

Can't guarantee it but I've certainly seen it happen. Good spot for photos anyway. Hope you enjoy the meeting.

We Marshals are looking forward to seeing you all especially as this is our first meeting at Cadwell this year. Here's hoping for a safe day with plenty of good racing.

There was a story going round, which I hope was an April fool's joke, that a chicane had been introduced upstream of the entry to the Mountain. If so, then there will be no way in which speeds up the hill will be sufficient to allow lift off. Can someone reassure me that another outbreak of madness has not overcome common sense ?
Chris.

Yes there is a new chicane but it is for bikes, mind you they have taken the banking back at hall bends.

Paul, the classic F3 boys should certainly get airborn - they always used to in the old days of contemporary F3 at the circuit.
Check out this old thread showing a painting I did of Piquet winning there back in '78, airborn as was the norm. This was hanging in the circuit bar for years but is now - I am told - displayed in the reception area to the circuit offices.

I might get up there myself Sunday, not sure yet. If I do, I will have to check out my old picture which I have not seen for at least 10 years. Hope for a glorious sunny Cadwell day?

Yes I was there Paul, got soaked in the rain before the F3 race! If you remember, Tiff was second in the Unipart March.
Other things I remember about that day, being 'gofer' at Royale, was our Kenny Acheson car being protested after practice - again by Van Diemen - and later found to be legal, as the works ex-Van Rooyen Minister engines always were. I remember Pat Symonds the designer and me having to push the car to the scrute bay for engine sealing, then having to rush off to find Kenny and mechanic Paul Thompson to tell them. They were not happy and even less so after the race as David McClelland had Kenny off at the hairpin on the last lap!
It was a very quiet drive home in the truck with I recall the world cup final football commentary on the radio - Holland vs West Germany. Not being the greatest football fan I can't remember who won that, but Kenny did manage to win three FF titles in '78!

Kenny was always a favourite of mine...he had a little Howitt sponsorship next year in F3

Paul.
From practical experience, I can tell you that 300bhp/ton and a heavy right foot are perfectly adequate to get air! You may not get 'Flugplatz' style leaps, but you will see many cars of full rebound, and tyre smoke off rear wheels scrabbling for grip.
Take a browse for both 'side-ons' at the crest and 'rear 3/4's', which will show the 'twitch'

Ah yes - the 'twitch'. It was this that caught out Senna in F3 in '83, putting him in the fence in practice with enough damage to make him miss the race..

no air for me . . .just a slight rise in revs.

but what an awesome circuit, very hard work, I'm not sure I got one lap right all the way round, in fact I'm pretty sure I didnt !

ours, and three of the first 6 races got red flagged, some people just wont respect the track, their competitors, and certainly no their own cars !!!

There were a couple of practice sessions red flagged too.
Better safe than sorry, especially on such a narrow circuit.
