GP2 and Renault

Anyone know the extent of Renault's control/involvement in the GP2 cship? How many RDDs will be in it? Will Renault be vetting teams?

Is there a website for GP2?

AFAIK its an official FIA series to replace F3000 so the FIA website should be the first place to have info.

Don K has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
As far as I know, the only thing that the FIA said officially about this so far, was that they *did* read the press release in which Renault announced their series.

See the press release on www.fia.com, 19 januari 2004, "PROPOSED RENAULT FORMULA GP2 SERIES".

Who is behind Formula 2 ?

As we reported earlier in the week, Dallara are to build the chassis, and Renault will supply the engines.

But there is another Renault connection to the championship: The man behind the press statement on Monday is Bruno Michel.

Swiss-based Michel was an accountant with the Ligier F1 team, and ultimately became Managing Director after the team was bought first by Tom Walkinshaw, then by Flavio Briatore.

His links with Briatore have also led to him running engine tuner Supertec and he is in charge of the Renault Driver Development plan.

Through a company registered in the British Virgin Islands, Michel and Briatore manage the careers of a number of the world's top drivers including Fernando Alonso and Mark Webber, and other celebrities such as supermodel Naomi Campbell.

Formula GP2 not certain says FIA

The governing body of world motorsport, the FIA has warned that the Formula GP2 championship announced yesterday has not yet been approved.

A statement from the FIA said: "Like any private series, GP2 could be run during Formula One weekends, subject to maknig the necessary commercial arrangements with Formula One Management Ltd."

Dallara and Renault to supply F2 / GP2

Dallara and Renault have been announced as the main suppliers to the new Formula GP2 championship.

The Renault-badged engine will be built by Mecachrome and provide 600BHP.

The chassis will be built by Dallara. The Italian company is well known for its Formula 3 cars.

I'm sure Lola is not happy at being left out of the new contract. The F3000 parts business was always a nice earner for them.
