Im kinda new to following Le Man racing. I am going to the LMES event at Silverstone and was wondering what the difference is between the different classes that are racing. What are LMP 1, LMP 2 etc???

If you have the time, go and have a look at www.lemans.org
All regulations are downloadable in .pdf-format. |

It's pretty simple, dazbaz.
LMP1 and LMP2 are prototypes. Thye can be open or closed cars, but at the moment all are open. The size of the cars are similar, but the LMP1s have bigger engines, more horsepower and more weight than the LMP2s. The LMP1s are faster and are the ones contending for the overall win, the LMP2s are a class intended for racing at a lower cost. Then you have the production based classes, the GTS are cars which are more race tuned and the GT cars are closer to road-spec. |
