Flame retardant underwear!

For any marshals interested I have purchased some flame retardent underwear from a chap selling them on ebay at a good price. They are surplus US Airforce issue.

The following link will take you to another auction ending tomorrow. If this has ended by the time you read this the chaps user id is redgerog so you can search on the sellers id.

I have stuck a match to my pair just to make sure and I can't get them to burn!!!!!

Note unfortunately they are only designed for men! ;-)

despite his feedback. i would rather buy my safety stuff from some reputable company and have some comback against them if the need arose.

sss - I take your point :-)

Its just at £50+ for a sparco set , I suspect most marshals don't wear any FR garments under their probans, so buying some for £10-15 is something we could all do and is better than nothing at all (and i suspect safer than wearing normal clothing).

I know alot of pit marshals wear FR underwear, especially at endurance races where refuelling is involved. Some even wear balaclava's for those races (don't know if that is to prevent any embarassment at being seen at an FIA meeting)

I generally wear it too, just because it's more comfortable as it's designed to be worn under overalls. Also saves having to think about what to put on early in the morning: "The white bits, then the orange bit..."

I coughed up almost £80 for a set of Sparco fireproof underwear, but they have the advantage that many clubs will accept these in combination with my marshal probans (plus race boots and gloves) as sufficient to race/sprint as well.

They had their first season out on the bank this year and I found they were great in the summer, as being long-sleeved I could roll my probans down to the waist to keep cool and still have fire protection.

Have to tell Mrs Woolley to get you some other colour fireproof undies then Woolley - now that would really confuse you early in the morning.... just as handbrakes do!!!
