Redracer77 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
New Date for North West FF1600

Just had a question to ask -

What are peoples thoughts on the added Anglesey date for the North West FF1600 championship?

In my opinion the 4 races we already have at Anglesey is enough and the added date conflicts with the MSV race at Oulton Park on the full circuit. The only people who will race at Anglesey will be the title contenders - between 6 - 8 drivers. The rest will have a fun day on the Oulton Park full circuit as it is hard to get people top come to Anglesey for a championship round never mind with the competition of a full grid on the OP full circuit.

So why not cancel the 5th Anglesey race and allow us race on the fabulous full circuit at Oulton Park which is the only date for FF1600 (apart from the Gold Cup for Mr Minshaw) in 2005?

I must admit I'm a little bit sceptical about this one as well - but bear in mind that if the MSV championship gets 30 regular contenders who want to race at Oulton on May 21 grid slots for the NW guys will be very limited indeed!

I would be surprised if the MSV grid for Oulton was more than 15 drivers. Don't forget a number of MSV drivers have already committed to just doing the Champion of Brands so they will not travel to Oulton?

I must admit the full Oulton circuit is tempting. Whatever the MSV entry is, how will the remainder be chosen - first come, first served?

(Chris - did you mean to try and have a separate NWFF round at the MSV meeting instead??)

Not really Mike,

I just would like the opportunity to race on the full circuit and I think putting another race on at Anglesey the day after is a daft move - but that is only my opinion.

I would maybe take a gamble if it was the other way round. As long as I had raced my championship round on the Saturday I may have done the MSV round as well on the Sunday but why risk your car on the Saturday as you would have no time to do any repair.

Do we really need another race at a circuit we already have 4 races at?

I agree, I would rather do Oulton full circuit - but Leinster did run a really good meeting last year to be fair

I suspect you might be right Mike. I also suspect that Chris might be right that the pure MSV entry for Oulton might be in the mid-teens leaving perhaps 15 places on the grid for 'guests'.

If people prefer to race at Anglesey that weekend then they can race in the Irish FF1600 Championship race!!

Can't we blagg a NWFF race on that weekend like Mike suggests!! Then we can have the option of a double header on the full circuit and that would please loads of drivers!!

Another fine mess for club motorsport.

I wonder if this has been done just to spite MSV?

Not at all Kicking-Back. I know Diz was trying to get a round with the Irish lot as we raced with them last year but the date doesn't work and we don't need another date at Anglesey. Also a single header will be hard to get people to Anglesey even without the MSV race

I have no problem with the Anglesey race in principle, it's just taking place on the wrong weekend !!. I think it unlikely that many people will do both so unless you are in a good position in the championship the Oulton Park full circuit will prove very attractive. There appears to be space in the championship program to move this to another weekend.

Yes, you could move the race to another weekend but you also need a race meeting. And there isn't another one at Anglesey.

You are likely to get two races on the Sunday at Anglesey - I believe an Anglo-Irish FF1600 challenge is planned.

Probably I'm too old for modern day racing [but foreversideways isn't ] It used to be the norm to do double weekends.
Race Saturday at Aintree or Oulton and stick it back on the trailer and head off to Croft, Mallory, Donington, or wherever for the Sunday.
Oh how times / attitudes have changed.

I don't think it is attitude Diz but times do change. The price of motorsport has changed a great deal and that will be one factor but also I guess the Championship has become more competitive. I am sure if the OP race was on the Sunday people may well have put a late entry on the way home but on this occation it will not work.

Most of the drivers I have spoken too are looking at doing the OP race as a bit of fun.

Modern day drivers don't "do racing for fun" anymore. They all take themselves far too seriously.

Anglesey is not a championship round for Irish ff as far as i know,so don't expect a big entry from over here.

Scober,
Dermot Quigley from Leinster MC was at the NEC and told me it was. This was one of the reasons I agreed to running a NW round at this meeting. That plus the chance of another Anglo Irish Challenge.

Yes i think scober is right it was proposed but i dont think it made it into our champ this year, it would be a good round for us coz its only 3 hrs away Kirk is 4 hrs, maybe it will work out next year.
