Holden Monaro British GT
Looking back at last years Brit GT series, i notice the Holden Monaro had its best result of the year in the first race of the final round at Brands Hatch. What opinions / perceptions do you guys have of this Car / team from their first year ?

I thought the car was built by Holden in Australia and shipped to the UK. I may be wrong.

Yes but in the UK they are marketed as Vauxhall and the car in question has Vauxhall sponsorship on it too!
It had a few teething problems at Brands (I know because it broke down right by me at Druids Hairpin) but it does look and sound like a really great car. Last edited by Stephen Green; 12 Jan 2005 at 13:44. |

I really like it and it makes a wonderfully noice. The team had a lot of bad luck last year but towards the end of the year they where starting to get things together. I hope it is out and about again this year.

Did anyone watch the Sky Sports series Oz-E-Motion which charted the first season of the Monaro? I found it a great watch and couldn't help but feel sorry for the guys everytime the car decided it had had enough.

Which version of the Holden Monaro is it?
What engine is it? 7 litre? Or is it the small engine? Did they take Vauxhall Monaro street version and modify it? |

The car was built by Garry Rogers in Melbourne. I think I remember them shaking it down at Calder before sending it to the UK.

I'm sure the car was built by Greg Stevenson at the Monaro Performance Centre in Melbourne. They are the same people who built Peter Brock's Targa Tasmania Monaro.

Well it was by no means a Porsche walkover in Britain last season Two different ferraris won races too together with a TVR and the vettes came close on occasion too.

It just might sound a little weird to hear of a Vauxhall potentially beating a Porsche in the arena Porsche does best... Should have kept the Holden badges!

A vauxhall has already done just that!
Colin Blower's VX220 took a podium at Combe in the dsc Cup ahead of a couple of 911s! |

I had a good look at the VX220 at the NEC last weekend it looks a good little car, lets hope they have more luck with that this year as well.

A very interesting project, that one.
Having followed its progress for a while, I wish it well. |

VX220 is nice n cheap too! In my sole visit to British GT last year (the sunday at Donington's opening rounds) the VX220 didn't run, unfortunately. The Monaro wasn't present either, only for display in the paddock. Hope both are in action in '05, I'll be visiting more events so I want them to help make it worth the trips!
PS - local news report saying Jonathan Palmer wants to develop Cadwell Park. That track is only 20 mins away from me, if they widen it like they said they would, it starts putting dreams into my head of either British GT or Britcar paying a visit should the track get to a high enough status... awesome! It is the "mini-nurburgring" afterall! |

Were can I find any company that actually sells racing equipment for the Monaro/GTO? I'm looking for suspension and brake kits for now.

I'd guess SRO and MSV are going to have to get a little more chummy before Cadwell becomes a possibility for Brit GTs!

The Monaro was a ex road race car thing which Brockie drove. It is different to the Garry Rodgers ones that raced at Bathurst in many many ways.
stay tuned.... |
