Get well soon Walter
It was announced today that the fast young Austrian driver, Walter Lechner Jr, who had planned to compete for Konrad Motorsport this year, would be forced to cancel his 2005 season due to ill-health. Having been taken ill during the first round of the season in Monza, the 23-year old has been diagnosed as suffering from leukaemia

Very sad news indeed for Walter and his family.
But he's a fighter, let's hope it's not too long before we see him back behind the wheel and enjoying life to the full again. Get well soon Walter. |

I was looking forward to seeing the Lechner & Lechner family team win some races in FIA-GT this year, now I insist on seeing it next year (either that or I want my money back)
The news yesterday was a wake-up call; in the greater scheme of things, racing isn't really that important. It's a serious illness, this, but he reportedly has a good chance of recovery. Get well soon Walter. |

Tough, but I've seen an old, tired woman overcome it, so I'm confident that it won't get a young, fit racecardriver down. Hope you'll be back to racing soon.

I had opportunity to meet Walter two years ago at Estoril - minutes before the race. The way he was ready to jump for the cockpit was really funny...
I hope he can recover as fast as he can!! |
