If Bernie plays hard ball with the TV contract in the U.S., this could be an unfortunate reality. If so, don't count me in for paying to watch any races. Pay-per-view to me is the $10 a month I spend to get the digital cable package that included Speedvision.

Ditto, I'm not shelling out any extra to watch a pass in the pits. SV submitted another bid about a week ago; they are awaiting a response. Looks like a repeat of 98, course the only ones who lose are the fans, abd Bernie laughs all the way to the bank

If SV does lose F1 it will be a tragedy. Any options other than SV are unacceptable to me.
I'm really frightened of the ESPN option. I have been burning white hot for years over their pathetic, disrespectful coverage of CART. I'll never forgive the *******s! |

Pay per View???????
Christ, I'm gonna hafta get a cable box now. Speedvision remains the best option for the fans, ESPN will blow it, the Pay per view option is purelt frightening, it will kill F1 support in the States. |

Bit of a same problem here in MikaKimiland. Free channel that has had f1 tv-contract for about seven years doesn't yet have it's contract renewed for 2001 season. So guess it'll be ****ty expensive pay-per-view (20$ per month + around 8$ per race, yuk!!).

And this coming from those who want to get American fans interested in Formula One and develop a following here.
Remember the USGP, the tarps on the paddock fences to block the view of the fans, the fights over press credentials, etc., etc. I guess that shows in Bernie's world, money trumps everything else, including the fans. |

For all the trashing Tony George takes here, we may have to admit that he's our only voice here. Bernie could care less about you and me, but perhaps he'll listen to the man with the keys to the US market (like him or not...). Tony doesn't want interest/coverage to wane in our country; on the contrary, he wants GREATER accessibility.
Perhaps an email barrage to his address will make our concerns known on the verge of the beginning of the new season. I'm writing. You ??? |

Very true. Do you think he would be reluctant to intervene if it became apparent SV/Fox was getting the contract ? My guess is that he'd "rally the troops" on behalf of ESPN (links to ABC). Now I don't know much, but if I were him I'd want to stir up as much enthusiasm as possible here in the states, and keep the Brickyard full in September. This is NOT to say that ESPN would provide the best coverage. On the contrary, SV/Fox would probably do it better.
