Tire Rub

Being a firm believer that a clean kart is a faster kart, I was wondering if anyone could lead me to a magic solution to clean tire rub marks off of the kart's bodywork. I've tried petrol and carb cleaner which do OK on the small stuff but the big ones are tough. Any suggestions?

WD40 seemed to work on my kart

Cellulose thinners or a cream cleaner work well.

Thanks all. I'll give these all a try.

Funny thing, the Bridgestone and Yokohama marks wipe right off with carb cleaner but it won't touch the compound used in the mandatory Mojo tires used in Rotax. I wonder if there is any competative advantage hidden in this discovery.

Talking about shifts everything, do you think its safe to use it to clean your hands . I always use it when my hands are greasy... I just don't want to find out 20 years down the road that WD40 is carcinogenic

In the UK most people who work with hydrocarbon/paraffin based products like WD40 (i.e. garage mechanics) are wearing vinyl gloves to protect them from occupational exposure to such substances.

Personally I avoid excessive skin contact with any solvent product without, I hope, getting obsessed by the issue. I'm not a regular user of such substances so don't take systematic precautions.

I would prefer the use of a conventional hand cleanser, e.g. Swarfega in the UK, but I don’t know what is the equivalent in the US.

Regards

Jim

yeah I don't swear by it, but occasionally when a rag just won't do, and I'm at the track, I'll just grab the can of WD40 and spray it on my hands. It works really well actually.

BTW just for future reference I'm from Australia.

Parafin works good but tyre marks are best removed as soon as possible rather than leaving it until a day or two later like me and ruining a new graphics set.

As for cleaning hands, I am always impressed by how much better than Swarfega washing up detergent like Fairy Liquid is at shifting grease.
