Stockhatch vs Minicross challenge ??

After watching Ken Moss & Ed Heinzelmann in the thick of the action with the stockhatch boys during Saturday's meeting at Lydden, it got me thinking!

Would there be much interest in a Stockhatch vs Minicross meeting? It could be run as a team event, with drivers from each disipline scoring points for their team. Or even run like a speedway meeting but with eight starters instead of four?

If you look at previous meetings race times, there is not a lot between the two.

Possibly to be held during the winter break??

With all the uncertenty of where rallycross is going in this country, this could be a lot of fun for those drivers who just want to go and race, without all the usual 'politics'.

Just a thought.......

Let us hear your opinions.

ps. Rod Birley - If your around, could you let me know what kind of entry level would be needed to make it a viable meeting cost wise and would it be something you would interested in getting involved with?

The Minicrossers have a few races with SEMSEC throughout the year but to take part in that you need obviously need a race licence - not sure how many of the minicrossers have them?

The Minicross cars seem to be roughly on the pace of the SELOC BMWs and can mix it with them ok, I guess lap times for a stock hatch are similar too? If there are enough stock hatch / minicross drivers with race licences you could probably tag onto a race meeting at just about any circuit.

If you want to use a rallycross circuit instead of pure tarmac you're going to need to come up with a lot more entries (although you then don't need a race licence so you've potentially got more drivers). I guess this is where Rod would come in and get some of the oval boys invovled too? The stock hatch vs stock rod events at Lydden on the rallycross circuit were a good laugh, if you added in minicross too would that be viable? I seem to remember those events didn't break even though?

I would certainly be interested in taking part in a event with stocks vs minis.
Would be very intersting to see the 2 classes go head to head in teams.

Could be a lot of winter fun when the season ends.

BertMk2 you make a good point. If the meeting was run on a Saturday (no noise restrictions like a Sunday) we could have some oval / circuit racing in the morning with the stockhatch vs minicross on the rallycross circuit in the afternoon. This would boost entry levels.

It was great to see such a packed paddock at Lydden on Saturday with so many different formula & classes taking part on the same day.

I like the idea of possibly running a circuit meeting in the morning and a Rallycross meeting in the afternoon. I believe Lydden used to do this about 10 years.

Hopefully that way we could share the track hire costs between the organising clubs and offer cheaper entry fees.

Absolutly MiniMadness!

I don't know about you but I can't sustain the cost involved in entering our regular championship events, so maybe we need to explore some different avenues so that we can carry on competing in this great sport!

The meeting last weekend, which was a shared day, with the rallycrossers racing on the oval in the afternoon had an entry fee of £40.

Apart from this I think it would be a great laugh and would produce some very close racing!

Bert, you are right about the costs. Winter rallycross is just not viable at present. The BARC lost money on all the recent winter meetings it ran. The "festival" was only just viable this year, thanks to a lot of effort on all sides. However, lets not dismiss this entirely.
