Red Bull to sponsor RüSport

Fellows,

I just heard from a well-informed source here in the East Coast (someone close to Kalkhoven) that Red Bull is going to be announced as RüSport title sponsor for the 2006 Champ Car season.

I was quite surprised by that since Red Bull just pulled the plug on its sponsorship to Eddie Cheever's IRL team, but my source confirmed that the deal between Red Bull and Paul Russo's organization is "done".

The tide is turning.

Cheers,

Muzza

Is that your shortest post ever Muzza?

Considering that Red Bull already sponsor Allmendinger, this makes some degree of sense. It's slightly ironic that Wilson lost his Jaguar drive to Klien due to Christian's Red Bull backing though. Cheever's team was enver likely to be truly competitive in the IRL, which RuSport is a promising young team with 2 hugely promising drivers for the future, so it's well worth Red Bull getting behind them. Does this make Justin 'the Winged Giraffe'?

Im afraid of it turning into an F1 testing ground with drivers coming in and out all the time, Cause I bet Thats Red Bulls motive.

Thanks for the info, Muzza. Great to "hear" your voice again!
And you raise a good point, GBoehm.

There was a rumour not long ago that Red Bull might become title sponsor to the Formula Atlantics as well.

Perhaps its because Champ Car has more of a global exposure than the IRL does. Which would also explain why they do not have a car sponsored in NASCAR.

Will the Red Bull livery be on both cars or just AJ's?

Great news!

Red Bull may want to get some Americans in F1, but I don't think they're wholy obscessed with it. They likely also desire other marketing outlets. Keep in mind that Cheever wasn't exactly going anywhere whereas RuSport is a racing winning team that has made drastic improvements in a short period. They also have two excellent drivers who will likely be making big names for themselves next season.

I seriously doubt that CC has more global exposure than F1.

Well, good news if it turns out to be true!!

I hope this gives RUSport the extra impetus to be true challengers to Newman-Haas next year.....

Justin for the title? Who knows!

There's definitely every possibility of Justin or AJ challenging for the title, the team has moved forward a lot in a very short space of time, and will now be as well-funded as anyone, with the drivers still gaining experience.

I doubt it since that's why they bought the second F1 team.
