Dick might have made some mistakes but he is a decent bloke. So, what is the big problem with Dick? And sure, DJR aren't top of the game, but they are a strong team that will make results next year.

I wouldn't hold my breath if I was you Greg.
I think you'll find the Gatorz sponsorship has gone too. At least some of it is following Dean Canto. Who knows where the rest will pop up - but you can bet it won't be at DJR! |

I think there is a big market for sponsorhsip at the moment...
with the recent regulation of both Power Companies and Superannuation.. there is an opportunity there. |

Surely you jest ?????? Competition for a sponsor, any sponsor is fierce - they all want value for money & motorsport seeks big dollars - DJR would not have chosen Westpoint over others, just Westpoint. The footy codes, especially those with free to air TV, have great hospitality packages. Golf is having trouble attracting sponsors, the Commonwealth Games will be sucking up the corporate dollars. Jason, Holden & Ford bankroll the V8s .... What is it you see would attract the power companies or the Super Funds? How would it produce a return for them? p.s what value did Autobarn get in 05? |

In 1999/2000 New Zealand motorsport suffered a lot from lack of corporate sponsorship dollars - to the extent event the Pukekohe V8's were in danger of not getting a major sponsor (did they actually attract one back then??)
The reason? The America's Cup in Auckland. Speedway over there recognised this problem early on and ploanned well for it but apparently motor sport did not and, for about 12-18 months, went through a period with no big sponsors entering the sport. The Commonwealth Games are doing the same in Victoria - new, large, sponsorship proposals are currently being met with 'Not at this time thank you'. (this is affecting all sports - not just motor racing) |

I'm only on Round1 with TV coverage in Canada Is it assumed that the Westpoint sponsorship brought in less money than the old Shell sponsorship? Just wonder if thats a factor.

Whether you agree with DJR's actions or not over the last month or so, you have to give DJR credit for providing Dean with a superb & RELIABLE mount in 2005 to show his skills. Would Gary Rogers have picked him up for 2006 without the benefit of seeing what he was capable of in that GATORZ Falcon?? I would think Gatorz would be extremely happy with the coverage they achieved in 2005 thanks to Dean Canto & Dick Johnson Racing, so much so, that Gatorz started to appear on the main series cars more prominantly from Sandown on. All we be revealed next week I suppose..... |

If Gatorz return they will have been happy with their 'bang for the buck' - if not .... Even if Canto & DJR were happy, it does not necessarily mean the sponsor got value. |

Lets see..... won the championship, and had a massive crash that got shown on lots of TV channels. I would hope that they would be happy with the coverage they got!

Granted DJR provided Dean with a car that allowed him to show what he could do - but away from the circuit I think Gatorz got more support from Dean than they got from DJR - and I suspect they hope (and will try to make sure) it continues next year. |

Well let's hope Dean Canto can give Valvoline-Cummins- Repco & maybe Gatorz, outstanding value for their sponsorship $$$$'s next year Placebo, but probably more important for Dean, let's hope GRM can give him a superb & RELIABLE mount for 2006 to show his skills otherwise, one wonders what will happen to him in 2007!!

In the financial press yesterday... it was reported that several more Westpoint mezzanine finance companies were placed in administration...
Doesnt sound like good news for Tricky Dick if he is owed any money |
