British FF1600 travelling to Ireland

Is it ever going to happen???
I raised a similar thread earlier in the year but thinks its quite moot to do so again. The British FF1600 scene benefits immensely from the Irish contingent travelling across here to race but it seems there is little if no reciprocal action? Why is that, seriously why aren't there raiding parties at the Leinster Trophy meeting or the festival at Kirkistown??? I cant comment on Kirkistown but Mondello is a great circuit. I know there are costs involved that dont exist travelling to the like of Brands or Oulton but surely a bit of transporter sharing would help alleviate some of that?

As a matter of interest what were the entry fees for the Kirkistown festival & Leinster Trophy race?

I think one of the main reasons really mate is choice.

You know yourself, we have so many races for us to enter here on the mainland, that there really isn't a need to travel to Ireland.

With all due respect to the Irish lads (who more often than not come over and kick our a**es) they come here as this is where the circuits to be noticed at are.

We have so many races here to choose from that there is no need to take all your kit over to Ireland (they aren't the cheapest crossings) to race.

But your right, we should maybe make the effort. They need a JEB at Kirkistown to put a good summer festival event on. That might draw the crowds. I wouldn't hold your breath though. Silverstone is so easy to get to for the majority of drivers. Kirkistown wouldn't be.

Good man Mr Mulholland, it's nice to know I am fondly remembered that side of the pond.
The problem nowadays, is - as Walshy alludes to - choice, cost and a different mentality. And before you all start, I know nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

It wasn't a problem in those halcyon days of Formula E Ford 1600. We ran the club, we sourced the dates, it was a National Championship and we told them where they were racing. They didn't have to go though. There was nothing to stop them doing their local one circuit championships.
Formula E ran at circuits spread far and wide, Thruxton, Combe, Pembrey, Brands, Silverstone, Donington, Mallory, Cadwell, Ingliston, Knockhill and Kirkistown, but we drew the line at Lydden.

Sadly the Leinster Trophy ain't what it used to be and there's no guarantees on which class will be competing for it - for the last couple of years (prior to this year) they were giving it to whoever won the BTCC round An ignominious episode for a trophy that boasts the likes of Senna and Hakkinen as previous winners, but sure what can you do. Don't get me wrong, I'm not dissing the BTCC guys and I enjoy watching them race - but throwing the Leinster Trophy in as a rather pathetic afterthought to an international meeting is a bit sad. Hopefully, this year will be an indicator of things to come.

Kirkistown rocks - and in fairness, we got a few of the UK boys over for the festival last year. Come on over - we want to see which of yiz are brave enough not to lift off at Debtors.......

Mondello used to provide a deal with Irish Ferries - I don't know if it's still available. Maybe 500 club could do something similar?

Richard Young, step up to the microphone!

Happy days.We always had a warm welcome from the 500 club. Lots of track time, good racing and non stop laughter plus the odd drink or two afterwards (my liver is still recovering)

I'm planning on making at least one trip to the Emerald Isle myself next year, provided that a certain FF1600 site needs me to.......

I hate travelling to distant circuits I haven't been to for years, mainly because I can't afford the testing etc. but it wouldn't take much to tempt me back to Kirkiston. We were so warmly welcomed, we had access to the circuit for a day for very little money, nothing seemed to much trouble.
I only have happy memories and many anecdotes.

...Hello Alan...I think I did some permanent damage to my liver as well.

Kirkistown was a breath of fresh air in the 80's. No petty restrictions by the officials unlike the rest of the UK at the time and everyone was so helpful.
If it's still the same it should be an event not to miss! All this talk is tempting me to get our car back on the track again - just don't tell the wife!
