Newey to start with Red Bull on Monday (9-1-06)
Well that kind of changes things for RBR and the rest of the F1 field, You cant say that he wont have any impact on this seasons car now...

I'm sure Newey will have an impact on ideas for improvements and updates for sure but the car is already designed so he can't change that.
What Newey brings to RBR is a proven talent that will be seen in their future cars but not so much this season. |

Aerodynamic pieces can be modified quiter easily though, and that's where his real skill lies. The extra 2 months could feasibly gain RBR a place in the championship.

I think this is going to be very interesting watching the development of this car. The thrilling thing about this is they could possibly beat ferrari using a ferrari engine. I tell you what I bet ferrari are keeping there fingers crossed that bridgestone have an advantage over michelin in tyre performance.

Bearing in mind that tyre changes are back in this year, and Brigestones are better suited to short stints rather than endurance.

As he's just finished designing the 2006 Maclaren, a potential championship winner, he knows what Red Bull should be aiming for. He also knows how he has solved the design problems to make it quick. Given 2 months with a good testing budget heh should be able to wring a couple of extra second or so out of the RB2. I'd imaging that you could achieve more in 2 months of pure testing that in half a season if you are racing as well.
Ron is probably hoping that Newey will destabilise the grid behind the MP4's |

I gotta ask why bother with working on this years car? why not just immediately start on next years car as anything he does to this car will probably be a stopgap solution due to him being of a different mindset and probably going about things slightly differently than their previous designer

IMHO he aill have an impact, not at Red Bull, I agree it will take a while there, but at MacLaren.
There he will be sorely missed for all the eventual but critical adjustments to the design that he probably understands better than anyone.....it may be a long, long second half of 2007 for Ron and co. |

Had Red Bull not worked on the 2005 car they wouldn't have had the season they did - in fact, it would have been about as great as any of the Jaguar seasons. |
